I love finding video of shows I attended. I watched a video of Paul Weller doing "That's Entertainment" a few nights ago. It looked like the show I saw on this tour. At the end of the song the video widened out... and the back of my head was prominently featured. The guy who shot it was standing about two feet behind me.

I wish I could properly express how good Dave Hause was last night in Charlotte. A truly terrific intimate, packed venue at The Evening Muse with tremendous acoustics, and the chemistry between Dave, his brother Tim and Mark Masefield on keys was palpable and came through in the music. Engaged crowd, Dave is brilliant with banter (there was a 7-year-old with his parents on the front row and Dave was great with the kid - "You're going to hear a few words tonight, bud, that you might not want to say in school - yet." - sending him home with a signed setlist and other pickups from the merch area, which Dave and Tim personally worked).

Met three of my friends who didn't know Dave's music before last night and I think they all left as new fans (and spent some money). That was a treat for me.

Fantastic set, good moments throughout, a lot of ups, then bringing things down, and sing-alongs. "Dirty Fucker" absolutely tore the place down.

Opened with a slower version of "Low," which is a song that brings tears to my eyes, and would have here if it had closed the set. Just a great, great night and worth the 2-hour drive and 2 a.m. bedtime.

Go see Dave. You won't regret it.

Ah, he's playing tonight in Vienna, Va., about two hours from me. Alas, cannot swing that with work tomorrow. Of course, he's closing his UK tour in Brighton on March 2, but I won't get there until March 5 at earliest. That would have been cool.

Didn't know I liked him this much, but just dropped a hundred bucks to see Jack White in April.

Spring was defined by me missing Turnpike Troubadours due to financial emergency. Now fall has been defined by me missing Morgan Wade due to a different emergency. When I get back on my horse in 2025 I swear I’m finding a way to catch more live music. I want the last year of my 40s to be defined by something more than sports.
