Wow, there is a name from the past. One of many pegged as the "new Dylan" who couldn't live up to that handle, not that anyone has.

He was pegged as the "new Dylan" as much as anyone. The critics annointed him. It just didn't take, and I've always been puzzled.

Oh, I know, Rolling Stone just loved him.

Last concert was the Stevie Nicks/Rod Stewart Heart And Soul tour.

    Next is Stevie Nicks solo.

My next will be Ben Harper in Vancouver on Aug. 28 at the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park. My last was I think Corb Lund. My best was probably Our Lady Peace in Edmonton -- concert, along with inclusions from their stop in Calgary and I think Montreal was turned into thier live CD and DVD.

Piotr, did you purposely leave out that tickets for your Metallica show at Fillmore cost $6 (that's right: six dollars). Correct? Anyway, have a blast. That will be a great show.

OK, this forum has lived for four years and I just saw it for the first time so what the fuck (hey, we're in concert mode, so F bombs are expected):

Best: Honestly, there isn't one that truly stands out, but worth mentioning is Maynard Ferguson on trumpet owning the Great American Music Hall in San Fran in 1977. I was 17 and a trumpet player. DAMN!

Worst: wham (they don't deserve all caps) at the Oakland Coliseum in 1984 with Katrina & the Waves (missed them) and the Pointer Sisters (they ruled) opening. Nothing but teeny-boppers. Went with the future wife on her dime. Couldn't say no.

Last: Mayhem Festival in July at the Shoreline in Mountain View. Got lit and don't remember nearly as much as I should about Machine Head, Megadeath and ... whoever else was on the main stage before Disturbed. I'll make it up at Uproar in October, but next ...

Next: Dream Theater with Trivium opening (a total Roadrunner pairing) on Sept. 24 at the Warfield in San Fran. DMT isn't mainstream/radio popular but IMO the most musically advanced group of musicians/songwriters in the biz. They ain't three minutes and move on to something else so not nearly enough people know who they are. Dream Theater is to calculus as Nickelback is to Math 1. Not a better current guitar player in the world than John Petrucci (until we hear again from Ed Van Halen and Steve Vai), and I'll get to check out Mike Mangini, Mike Portnoy's replacement on drums. Otherwise, I know nothing about them. ...

Best concert that I don't remember nearly enough of: Scandal with Patty Smyth (pre-Johnny Mac) in 1982.

I do remember falling off the chair I was standing on to get a better look at her, and landing on the edge of one of those cocktail tables. The next afternoon when I woke up, the entire bottom of my left thigh was black/purple.

Second-best concert that I don't remember nearly enough of: The Pretenders in 1981.

Not so much the concert, but the fact that after the concert, I somehow managed to drive my car down the marble steps of the state Capitol building, was seen by a city cop, and after being followed for four blocks, saw him turn off. Guess he didn't want a difficult night.

(Yes, it has been a long time since I've been that stupid, thankfully.)
