Last concert: Built to Spill, Saturday night (Feb. 9), Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Wash.

Great show in a very intimate venue. Also, being an old-style movie theater, the sound was great and louder than hell.

After 90 minutes of mostly old songs (many of which were before I started following the band, which rose to fame in the late 1990s), Doug Martsch and crew had fun in the encore, opening with "Don't Fear the Reaper" and ending the encore with a 10-minute long, guitar jam version of the Smiths' "How Soon is Now."

If you're into 1990s rock (a la Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, etc.), catch Built to Spill ... they're playing throughout the West in April and May before taking part in the Sasquatch festival.

Next: We'll see ... maybe Soul Asylum? They're playing at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix the week I'll be in town ...

    Best: Lagwagon, Jacksonville 2006

Worst: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Melbourne, Fla. 1991

(I've never really been to a bad concert, though 1996 Warped Tour in a parking lot in Sanford, Fla. was a miserable location).

Last: Avett Brothers, St. Augustine 2009

    Next: xx, Kansas City

Beale Street is shaping up quite nicely ... ZZ Top, Mule, Black Crowes, The Roots, Public Enemy, Pumpkins, Wallflowers, Alice in Chains and Coco Montoya among those who catch the eye.

Saw The Who tonight. Sure, Roger's and Pete's voices are shot, but to hear them play Quadrophenia -- just a masterpiece of an album -- straight through was still pretty awesome. Ringo's son does a wonderful job on drums.

I am off to see The Who in Hamilton, Ont. tomorrow night. Saw them the last time they toured Quadrophenia many years ago, definitely looking forward to one more show.

Bonnaroo lineup should be announced today. Not planning on going this year. Might go next year if AF headlines again.

Terrific stuff, great performance of Quadrophenia, really enjoyed the video presentation they had with that. Roger and Pete were both solid last night - especially Townshend on guitar. Zak Starkey was tremendous.
