I always thought 11 was the magic cutoff time where the union stage hands would start being paid OT.

Anyone going to the Rolling Stones at the Verizon Center on Monday in DC? I am, and am glad my girlfriend is the one who bought the tickets, sheesh what a price. Cheapest tix were $180 not counting ticketmaster fees. Those were all sold out, so she had to get the $280 (each), and that is upper deck. I can take her to four or five concerts for the price of this one.

Saw Old 97s and Drive-By Truckers in St. Louis last month. Really nice show.

Finally, a reason to risk setting foot in Camden. I've got tickets for Flight of the Conchords Sept. 6. Dave Chappelle is the other headliner.

I just saw that and am definitely intrigued. Not sure I'm up for spending $80 for it, though.

Thinking about seeing the current incarnation Journey later this summer, just to satisfy my 80s nostalgia. Could see them close by in a large outdoor ampitheater in the dead of August heat, or a week later for a lot more money in a cozy indoor air-conditioned setting at a casino further away. Thinking the casino is going to win out.

Speaking of prices, I know this just makes me a crotchety old bastard who is a complainer ... but anyway. I looked into getting some Eagles tickets for later this year. My wife and I saw them on the Hell Freezes Over Tour when we were dating, so I thought it would be a good anniversary present. The lower-bowl tickets are $177, which is a little high for my liking, but whatever. I go to check out and see the convenience fee is $24.xx per ticket. That is some kind of bullshit.

Jason Isbell, July 5 in Charleston, S.C. Incredible show. Just dripped with raw energy. Southeastern sounds so much better live than it does on the album, especially Super 8. Ended the encore with a cover of the Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking."

Wire (English punk/post-punk band which recorded some good stuff in the late 70s/early 80s) - Artistic integrity taken to an insulting extreme. I can't remember seeing a more surly bunch of assholes on stage. They played all new stuff because "we're about being contemporary". Of course, the crowd (probably about 1,000 or so) turned on them and asked for old stuff. What followed were some embarrassing exchanges for a bunch of 50-year-olds. If they simply ripped off three or four numbers from the early days, people would have been overjoyed. I don't understand how they think they're above at least trying to provide some entertainment value for the ticket holder.
