I was way out of line with my comments last night. I was drunk, but not an excuse. I'm sorry. I hope you guys find something better. Or, I hope someone buys out JRC and starts treating its employees with civility. Again, my comments were pure shit. I did more griping than anyone when I was there. I should be standing with you guys, not pissing all over you. Take care.

JRC Corporate Director of News Matt DeRienzo has a great reason why you should apply for this job or the other JRC jobs that are currently available (With the exception of a few jobs that are considered part of DeRienzo's personal projects, there is currently a hiring freeze in JRC). JRC is a great place for reporters, editors, etc. to work because, according to DeRienzo, the most "talented" people in the industry work for JRC. He actually said that JRC's experienced employees are so great that the company needs to "celebrate" their achievements. If you want, you can read exactly what he said at http://jrcbites.blogspot.com/.

"Celebrate" their achievements, my ass. All DiRienzo is doing is overseeing the progressive de-humanization of these longtime employees so that they will quit, or help pull the trigger on the corporate firing squad on those who choose to stay. By the end of the year, there won't be very many of these accomplished employees left, and the only accomplishments he'll be crowing about are the college diplomas of wet-behind-the-ears kids whom he hired at barely minimum wage.

Wedgewood, Trentonian sucks, no doubt, but Camden, Bridgewater, Asbury, East Brunswick and Morristown ain't places anyone's going soon. Gannett has been cutting jobs too or not filling openings. And they're no place to be right now anyway because when BC departs, who knows what will happen. And that departure is coming sooner rather than later, by all accounts.

Since there's so much negativity about the Journal Register Company in so many of these posts, it's only fair to point out when the company does some good things. Check out the link below. The Trentonian recently won an award!

And for those cynics who are always dubious of JRC and their numbers, I even have the exact figures that can't be disputed.

    2005: 5 minorities out of 58 workers (8.6%)
    2006: 6 minorities out of 21 workers (28.6%)
    Percent increase: 232.6%

NOTE: Of the 6 minorities included in the 2006 figure, yes, two of them included minorities that were fired in 2006 and one of them includes a minority that left the company in September. The two fired minorities were decided to count because they did service the company for a portion of 2006 before getting fired. Same with the minority reporter who left for another paper.

What do you have to say to that now, critics? JRC isn't all bad.

It's obvious you are not employed by JRC. Why don't you apply for the assistant sports editor position - or better yet - the editor position - work six months, and then come back to this site and tell us all about your experience. By the way, the woman who is in the photograph next to publisher Bill Murray is barely literate and has made many, many mistakes on the front page of the newspaper. She is not held to the high standards the sports copy editors are, though ... gee, wonder why?

Now that I've had a chance to look at these numbers, I do have a comment about them:

    2005: 5 minorities out of 58 workers (8.6%)
    2006: 6 minorities out of 21 workers (28.6%)
    Percent increase: 232.6%

This is not an increase of minority workers. This shows that the staff has been reduced from 58 workers to 21, and of the 21 left six are minorities. This shows that JRC has destroyed its work force by more than half! This shows that a staff of 21 is now being forced to do the work of 58! How anyone could defend JRC and show it has a "232.6%" increase in minority hiring is beyond me!

    Down with JRC!

Let's project a couple years into the future.

    2007: 7 minorities out of 11 workers. (63.6%)

    2008: 7 minorities out of 8 workers. (87.5%)

    2009: 7 minorities out of 5 workers. (140.0%).

    Percentage increase: 1627.9% !!!!!

JRC, the bastion of minority opportunity!!

Strangely enough, JRC has no negros whatsoever working at the large majority of its daily papers. And appears to like it just fine that way.

They never fail, however, to give screaming front-page coverage any time a negro (or any other brown human) is suspected of committing a crime. That's for sure. ;)
