No kidding. Affordable cost of living, sub-$3 gas, no blankets of smog, good steaks, casinos right next door in Counciltucky, quality education system (despite its administrators), abundant housing, Runza....

Can't imagine why anyone would want to live there.

It IS in the middle of nowhere. Nice town to visit - but it DID remind me of "About Schmidt."

Hell, by that logic, St. Louis is in the middle of nowhere.

Nothing wrong with Omaha, and Lincoln's less than an hour away. Combined, it's a pretty nice area with plenty to do.

lmao. You can't even compare St. Louis to Omaha.

No shit. But you saying Omaha is in the middle of nowhere is no different from me saying the same about St. Louis. There's some decent-sized 'burbs, and that's it.

True enough. Unlike St. Louis, Omaha can gobble up (read: annex) the surrounding suburbs and continue to expand.

You're not going to mistake Omaha for NYC or Tokyo, true. But it's not Hooterville either:

There's a lot of money in the city and far more downtown development than comparable Midwest cities. I lived in a loft and walked everywhere for the first year I was here. I never tried to close my eyes and pretend it was Midtown Manhattan, but it certainly did feel urban. Metro area approaches 1 million, and 300,000 more people live in and around Lincoln, a 50-minute drive from Omaha on I-80.

I'm a little distanced from sports now, having moved -- along with ASE Dave Elsesser -- to oversee the presentation team. But I can certainly try to answer any questions.

I can tell you that there's no real limitations to this opening (as far as experience or skills), just an opportunity to bring good people on board on the sports desk. If that's someone young (or new) and ambitious or a veteran, all are welcome.

Will you be placing stick-ums on all new employees pencils? ;D I don't know Josh, but I do see the Omaho paper on his site, an excellent sports design site that I will now shamelessly plug -- Sportsdesigner.com. It seems like an outstanding paper that really gets the "big picture." It would be a great gig for anybody wanting to do good work.

No office pranks tonight. I've gotta get home in time to watch "Beavers By a Hair 7" on the Spice Channel.

Thanks for the plug. I should probably do that more here anyway. If I get down time tonight during the CWS -- and there's every chance I won't, with rain possible -- I'll see if I can throw some more details in here.

Count me among those who never have seen the lure of Runza's. Mediocre food, at best.

In a way, I did that for you, Doc.
