Curtis Granderson hits his 15th triple of the season, the first hit allowed by Scott Baker.

I can't believe Granderson has 15 triples already. That's incredible.

With his wheels and the gaps at Comerica, you can see it. But you're right, that's an awful big number before the All-Star break.

    Don't mind if I do...

Today's game. Case #1. Kendrick pitching. He is doing very very well against a Mets team that has a lot of firepower. He gets the first two batters in the 7th to pop-out, and Willie Randolph pinch hits Ricky Ledee. Kendrick is due up first in the next inning. What does Manuel do? He proceeds to pull Kendrick in favor of J.C. Romero, who Randolph then counters with Damon Easley. You have just wasted a decent reliever in Romero who has a low ERA as well as a valuable lefty presence out of the pen. Romero induces the grounder, but Manuel just wasted a reliever. He pinch hits for Romero in the next inning, and then brings in Bourne to play right. Why not pull the double-switch and throw Bourne at the 9th spot and put the pitcher in Burrell's spot in the lineup. He used four pitchers in the last 2 1/3 innings of the game, where he could have used two.

Apparently Jerry Narron has been given the axe. Not a big shock.

Also on Granderson, it'd be interesting to see if he has a shot to get to 30 triples ... that would be amazing. Heck, getting 26 would put him in a tie for 9th for most in a season.

Hell of a ball game in Detroit. Tigers win it on Thames' eighth-inning shot.

The decent reliever Romero just joined the team. A pitcher did not hit in Burrell's spot. Have you seen a double-switch played out? Romero was hardly wasted. Zagurski is serviceable as a left-handed specialist and the Phillies won.

I don't understand how any of what you said equates to being the worst manager in baseball today. The fact that he has the balls to sit Burrell despite the $13 million contract is reason enough to praise him. That, and Tony La Russa tapped him for his All-Star staff, which Manuel turned down b/c of a prior committment.

What does Tony La Russa tapping him for the all-star staff have to do with being a good manager? La Russa also picked Willie Randolph, who begged out to have shoulder surgery during the break.

Does The Genius asking you to be an All-Star coach suddenly make you a good manager? Not in the case of Manuel or Randolph

If you are arguing that Manuel is a great manager, we can stop the conversation right there, and agree to disagree. So he decided to sit Burrell. Burrell is also hitting a great .203 now. He was struggling for a while. Manuel is a yes man who will not challenge the front office about anything and just pat his players on the back and not last out. He only lashed out after that one loss and the Phillies had a small winning streak.

Manuel pitched: Kendrick, Romero (1 batter), Sanches (1 inning), Zagurski (2/3 inning), Alfonseca (1 inning). He essentially wasted Romero on one batter. Let Kendrick pitch the inning out. No one was on base, and he had a 3-2 lead. Ledee won't put on out off of him. Kendrick only had 89 pitches. One more batter would bring him up to the 93 range. If he lets up a hit, then bring him out, but not before.

Manuel has lost the Phillies more games with his poor managing than he has won. The only reason he is around is because his contact ends after this year.

No, but I think La Russa realizes what kind of job Manuel has done with the shit he's had to work with-- Garcia out with a shoulder injury he's hidden since spring training, Lieber fucks up his foot, two closers on the DL...

I'm not arguing that Manuel's a great manager. I'm debunking the argument that he's the worst in the majors. And yes, the reason he is around is because he has one more year, and the reason he is making good decisions is because he has no fear of repercussions.

Well done, Gutter. Way to take it on the chin.

As for Bubbler, how about that same pic with a pic-sig that says "Man-Boobs McGhee loves donuts and hates defense."

    As for the sig.

"Hahaha. Jason Marquis. Ryan Theriot. Hahaha."
