Vargas scuffled and the bullpen was worse.

I think Randolph and Minaya are banking the season on Pedro being Pedro when he comes off the DL.

Leave it to the Nats to play like gangbusters at home on the 4th.

Meat Hook grand slam off "One Pitch" Rich Hill.
Nook Logan, Felipe Lopez and Ronnie Belliard throwing Gold Glove leather. So is Zimmerman ... but when does he not?
7 shutout innings from Matt Chico.

Really, who didn't expect the Nats to play this well on the Fourth?

Uh, HB, Vargas did not scuffle... he was horseshit.

On a totally unrelated note, Bobby Murcer is working the Yankees game on YES today.. looks great, sounds great and is going to PLAY in the Old Timers Game at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Murcer has called several games this season, and seemingly hasn't missed a beat. He's the most underrated color analyst in sports broadcasting today, and the best in New York.

This is bad news; I am older than Spirited.

Still younger than dirt, water, and Willie Nelson, however. 8)

Adam Everett's got a career in broadcasting if the baseball thing doesn't work out. He's in the Astros' booth today and he's adding all kinds of stuff to the telecast. Makes me realize how useless most color guys are.

i don't understand why the twins revert back to 1997 form every time they hit the bronx. no one else remains mystified by the yankees' mistique but the twins somehow manage to convince themselves that they're playing the 1996-2000 yankees. it's almost as embarassing as losing two of three to the nationals at the metrodome.

Well, that changed today. Nothing like giving up two-run home runs to Jason Kubel and Lew Rodriguez. Santana pitched pretty solid as well.

Is it raining in Cincinnati? I assume that is why it is delayed.
