Stephen Drew just made one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen. He dove to his right in the hole and FROM HIS KNEES threw Edwin Encarnacion out by a half-step at first. The throw was on a line and didn't bounce. It's not like he's playing second or third ... he threw him out from his knees at shortstop, and he wasn't playing in.

    The Twins onslaught continues.

Whoever's pitching for the Pale Hose just walked Mike Cuddyer (0-6 this afternoon) then hung Morneau a 1-2 curve pecker high.

    3-0 Minnesota.

    Suggested headline for Chicago papers:

    A Whiter Shade of Fail.

Zeke - That would be Gavin Floyd pitching for the White Sux.

The Yankees continue to treat Bartolo Colon like a bitch, roughing him up for seven runs on seven hits in just 2+ innings.

Also, Brandon Phillips hit a ball about 450 feet tonight. He's not exactly a big dude. What a talent.

He's just trying to make it to November and his final three-year deal.

Alas, I think his shoulder will actually detach itself from the rest of his body before then.

    Holy crap!!!

Catcher Mike Redmond just got nailed by an errant bat, had to leave the game with a bleeding head wound.

Joe Mauer is now coming in to catch -- after catching the earlier game which lasted nearly four hours or so.

    **Edit**
And since Mauer was the DH, starting pitcher Matt Garza led off the second. He struck out.

They were saying on the broadcast that Redmond was hit behind the ear.

Proving, once and for all, the backup is softer than the starter!

Well, this is two consecutive terrible starts by Pettitte. I guess he is returning to earth.

Ryan Braun was batting .538 against lefties going into tonight's game against the Nats. After tonight's game, I think he's batting 1.038. He's that good against lefties that he's made it mathematically possible.

And Earth to the Nats announcers, the Brewers were not swept by the Pirates, they lost three of four.

Wow. That's some bad managing by Gardenhire, and yet another way that Carl Pohlad's miserly ways bite the Twins in the ass. Can't necessarily blame Gardenhire for using Mauer at DH, but he'd be able to give the guy a full day off--and preserve him for an emergency, a la Redmond taking one off the skull--if, you know, HE HAD A DESIGNATED HITTER WHO COULD ACTUALLY HIT. And RonDL White, who hit back in his 20s when he wasn't hurt, does not count.

Ding dong. ARod has left the building. His first home run in a while. Yankees lead 12-9. With the Yankees bullpen, there is still time for the Angels to outscore the Twins today.
