Corriendo beisbol estring numero seis (because 46 pages on No. 5 was enough ...)

Tacoma News Trib is reporting that Adam Jones, AAA center fielder in the Mariners organization, will be called up soon but not Thursday. Jones is burning up AAA except for a terrible walks/strike outs %age.

No report yet re finalizing/signing an Ichiro deal.

And: when KRod threw strike one in that last AB last night, am I the only one who said, "OK, it's over now..."? There's a cliche with some weight.

Rickey Henderson will take over as Mets hitting coach and probably a pinch runner in late-inning situations.

    Pinch-runner? seriously?

The only idea worse than that is naming Rickey as a coach? That's got to be the worst idea I've ever heard. Let's hire as hitting coach a guy who chafed at authority, lived by his own rules and disrespected his own hitting coaches (when Tom Robson got fired by the Mets in `999, Rickey didn't even know the guy's name).

I'd pay to hear those exchanges.

Paul LoDuca: Hey Rickey my swing feels a little off. What should I do?
Rickey: Well you see heebeedeebee heh heh Rickey hit heh heh heedeebee *unintelligble garble* heh heh.

The Mets. What a bunch of fucking jokers. Guess Rick Down is doomed to get screwed by ex-Yankees no matter where he goes.

By the way, Philip Hughes threw 2 innings, allowing one run in a rehab start recently. He threw 36 pitches, 20 for strikes. He is scheduled to throw 60 pitches in a start this weekend and start again for Trenton next week before moving up to AAA.

How many more games back will the Yankees have fallen in the wild card chase by the time he returns?

    Nice.
Based on how they played last week against two legit teams, I'd say they will be closer to the wild card lead.

    Silly Angola!

  8. Heard someone mention today that the Yanks play 54 of their 77 remaining games against teams under .500. Guy forgot to mention that the Yanks are under .500, too.

I still hold out hope. I'll give up in a month or so if they are still under .500.

Not if the Tigers and/or Indians continue to win games like they have.

Well, sure, but if the Red Sox continue to lose like they have, the East is still an option.

Red Sox went 13-14 for the month of June ... and actually extended their lead in the East. Something tells me the Sox aren't going to lose that lead, unless the Yankees simply go on a tear, like they did a year ago while the Sox continue to play like that have this past month.
