My point in reacting to the faux diatribe by mustard toward Gillick was simply how one action in life can change everything so substantively... and that freaks me out sometimes.

I thought the rule of thumb we all agreed to was 5 hour minimum mourning period. Cut to 3 if death due to stupidity

Honestly, I hope people joke about my life and the way I die. I think death is sad, but I don't see why it has to be solemn.

Rick Reed made his ML debut in 1988. Not your typical scab.

And this thread sucks, by the way.

It was mentioned by Gammons, it's fair game for the story. It's from a period of baseball history I prefer to forget ever existed.

But I don't wish death on anyone, even for breaking ranks. God. I'm not that harsh.

I have no problems with mentioning his replacement player past.

I do think it's in pretty poor taste to say you'd never forgive him for breaking ranks. A.) The dude is dead, so such actions are of little consequence today and B.) It's not like he walked across the picket lines at Ford or Wal-Mart. He walked across the picket lines for a billion dollar union that only caters and gives a shit about the richest of the rich. Big deal.

Steve, I don't get why you would be in any position to forgive or not forgive Lidle for crossing the line during the strike. Are you a member of the players' union? Did he cost you a paycheck?

If the answer is no to both, then for gods sake, show a little objectivity, please.

Also... I don't have a problem with anyone doing WHATEVER it takes to make a wage. If I thought it was my only option, I'm probably crossing too. At least I would hope I would have the balls to cross the line if my family depended on me.

ESPN just had a very good interview with Randy Miller of the Bucks County Courier Times, he talked about flying with Lidle in Florida. Said he was completely comfortable with Lidle at the controls. Also said some personal stuff that made Lidle sound like just a normal, damn nice guy.

    So sad.

    Could not agree more.

This is why I never thought it was fair to call Rick Reed a "scab." He was a scuffling minor leaguer with little $$$ and a mom who had diabetes when he crossed the line in 1995. Real easy for the dickhead union reps, who haven't had a financial worry in decades, to call Reed a scab for that.

What does it say about someone when he'd call someone a scab for trying to save his mom's life?
