Cowherd leaving ESPN

Nationally, perhaps. But in SEC land, it's non-stop college football talk all summer. One local show's question of the day was "We know who the starting QB is, but who will be No. 2?" It was the central theme of a four-hour show!

 

I think the fellow you are referring to is Jim White and, yes, he was terrific. He manned that shift for years. IIRC, White died several years ago.

I know and I still couldn't get on to say Juan Jennings should be above Dormady. Bastards.

 

ESPN’s Colin Cowherd blasted for remarks about Dominican players (updated) - The Washington Post

 

Don't know if it's big news outside of Toronto, but Jose Bautista hinted on Twitter that he was going to rip Cowherd a new one.

 

I've long been in the silent minority that actually likes listening to Cowherd. While I don't agree with everything he says, I do find his show entertaining, at least in comparison to his morning lead-in. And I usually try to defend the guy when he puts his foot in his mouth or spouts off unnecessarily.

That said, what he said about Dominicans was universally stupid, especially in the same week he agreed to a new job. This absolutely warrants consequences, either from his current employer or his future one.

 

Maybe it's a perfect controversy for him going to... FOX.

I'll follow Cowherd to wherever his next destination will be. He's interesting and handles "big topics".

After listening to Ryen Rusillo talk extensively about NBA salary cap space since Van Pelt left has only reinforced my belief that he can't carry a show. This week he has Sarah Spain on as a co-host. For all of the talk I hear about how much of a star she will be, Spain has one thing that is torture to listen to...

A smoker's voice.

Perhaps she doesn't smoke but her voice sounds like she jams down a pack of Pall Malls right before showtime.

In radio, voice is almost as much as knowledge.

 

You can tell from the transcript that he kind of realizes he said something idiotic and immediately starts to try to clarify it by talking about "tough backgrounds" and so forth.

 

I'll give nearly interesting radio talk show host the benefit of the doubt because of the insane volume of subjects and statements made over 15 hours of work each week.

Not always, though.
