Texas is not the South. I have lived in both. Texas is Texas; never confuse it with the South.

I have two friends who moved to Texas. The first was from the north and the second was from Alabama. They both say Texas is separate from the South. Texas is Texas. Bottom line.

Yep on Texas, like a whole other country, even from end to end.
    Radically different.
My brother, in from Nevada for the holiday, noted that one thing you don't see out West is men wearing sleeveless t-shirts out and about. While in the South it is commonplace.
As far as moving South, it really depends on where.

    Yes, it is awesome.
I hunt snipe about six times per year, starting about early October. The limit here is eight per day. I can get that on less than one box of shells. Small birds with erratic flight pattern, thus hard to hit.

Don't say anything bad about Robert E. Lee or good about Sherman and you'll be fine.

Where in the South? Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi are Deep South. Tennessee, Virginia, Carolinas less so. Florida not South at all. Louisiana it's own weird world.

Texas is too damn ugly to be in the South.

    1. At Waffle House, go scattered, covered and smothered on the hash browns.

    2. If your coworker is a White Castle aficionado, Krystal's is not an acceptable substitute. Not even close.

    3. Stick with the unsweet tea. A Northern novice trying sweet tea for the first time is likely to snap into convulsions from a sugar overdose and require hospitalization.

    4. Sneer at college football played north of the Mason-Dixon line and west of Texas.

    5. For a real hoot, show up at Civil War reenactments in Union garb and announce that you are Wm Tecumseh Sherman.

    6. If doing no, 5, bring along a real gun.

    7. From November through March, periodically turn on the Weather Channel and laugh your ass off.

    4. So Pennsylvania and Ohio don't count? what about Syracuse? (see Orange f-ball thread)

    7. Growing up in the Northeast, I would move down south in a heartbeat--in a big enough city (Charlotte, Atlanta, etc)

No one includes Florida? What about Florida inland? All the cities are along the coast. Go ten miles inland and you're talking about places like Plant City (yikes).

You saw what happened to them Buckeyes when they played the Gators, right? And Penn State? Puh-leez. It's common 'knowledge' round these parts that if you ain't in the ACC or SEC, you don't know dick 'bout playing football. ;D And Boston College ain't included either--damn yankee carpetbaggers.

And on your other comment, Florida is kind of like Texas: its own entity and not considered part of the South. Well, expect for the football example above where they are grudgingly included because they're needed to fulfill the southern football boast...

You could start by not being so prejudiced and ignorant.
You could then stop generalizing and stereotyping.
Then you could attempting to educate yourself and have an informed opinion.
Those are good places to start.
