    Let's make it simple:

If President Obama had just done __________________, Russia would have never exerted its influence over the Ukraine.

    Fill in the blank.

You're the one talking about anticipation.

Months back on the politics board, I posted that Bush should have anticipated Saddam moving his WMDs, and didn't, hence, they were gone when we invaded. I got ripped on by the board conservatives because you'all thought it was impossible to anticipate a move like that.

Just pointing out the coincidence that NOW you think Obama should have anticipated this. Ignoring the difference that we were the ones making plans to go to war, rather than being the ones potentially on defense this time.

So the German chancellor said that to cover for Obama? Impressive conspiracy.

Russia has had influence of the Ukraine for centuries. Besides war, what do you want me to fill in the blank with? Diplomacy? Sanctions? Threats?

All of which, you guys are whining about, say that if he uses them, he's not showing leadership.

It's not one thing. Don't you get that? It's the totality of his Presidency, and his foreign policy.

I'm thinking the German chancellor is trying to cover for the German chancellor.

And, even if she's right, it's not like he's a new player on the world stage. Why were Obama and Merkel unaware of this until now?

Why was Mark Halperin and the rest of the media unaware of this?

Putin doesn't give a shit about what the world thinks of him at this point. Obama could be Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, and Reagan combined, and it wouldn't matter to Putin. Anything other than war, and Putin is just laughing.

Yes. Five years into the Obama Presidency, Putin doesn't give a shit. You are right.

He wouldn't give a shit if McCain or Romney were president either. That's what you don't get.
