    Needlessly.....?

Every cent his family had was because of his "needless" exploits.

    It's who he was.

Football players don't retire the moment they have kids, and neither do cops and firepeople.

    Please... spare me.

Yes, football players and cops spend their time around dangerous animals ...

Had a good run. Like Nelson Rockefeller, died doing what he loves to do best -- good for him. Please spare me the crap about his kids growing up without a father.

Typically not around dangerous animals, but they do work with things (criminals, fire) that they have no certainty in how they will react.

Why did you say "her" show? I haven't read all the Steve Irwin stories yet.

You guys raising a moral objection to what he did for a living - because he was in the oh-so-unique perdicament of having kids - is sad. This guy had a profession that he loved which supported his family that carried a certain degree of calculated risk. He understood this risk, and so did his wife.

Using your criteria, anyone with kids shouldn't be doing anything that carried any level of danger. You can't be a trucker if you have kids. You can't be in the military if you have kids. Martin Luther King, Jr., you have kids, no more political activism. Kennedy (both of them), Mandella, you too.

Don't forget boxers and other pro athletes. The risk for at least a career-ending injury exists.

Political leaders? The risk of assassination is there, so if they have kids they should step down.

Good grief, Steve Irwin was a man who loved what he did. He knew all too well that he could die on most missions/filmings. So did his wife, and if his kids are old enough, they did too. Tragic, yes. Boneheaded, no.

Because the footage he was filming was intended for a new TV show she'll be hosting. She's eight years old. Apparently that's old enough for her parents to decide she's ready to help keep the family cash register jingling away. Crikey! Ch-ching!

It'll probably be on a pay site within an hour or so of being released back to the family. Crikey! Ch-ching!
