    Yep.

The highlight of the awkwardness was when he walked into the dining room where we were all eating pizza and put an off-brand crock pot on the table. He asked his daughter if she wanted it, because he'd won it at the casino last weekend.

Her grandfather, his dead wife's father, turned to him and said "You lose your job and you think going to the casino is a good way to relax?"

    AWKWARD!

Yes, based on a recent discussion with a bar owner.

Back in my bartending days, I often made more on Thanksgiving Eve than New Year's Eve.

Will likely be at my bar but not late tonight. I'm a fan of getting out a little after happy hour and just settling in at home.

Per usual, I'm spending Turkey Day by myself making a dip, eating said dip, and watching football, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'll spend some time at my mom's at Christmas but didn't feel like driving up for just one day where neither one of us felt like cooking. Will hit up another spot at 5 to watch the Commies-Cowboys game and eat some wings.

I actually fairly detest Thanksgiving food, save for stuffing. To each their own.

Same here ... and it's probably not even what the Pilgrims ate! [/crossthread]

I will be a good sport and eat some turkey and cranberries, the two somewhat edible items on the menu for me. Maybe with a roll. A hard pass on the rest of the usual Thanksgiving menu suspects.

Hitting the road around 2 and working virtually from my in-laws tonight, tomorrow and Friday, which has become a family tradition, along with my mother-in-law offering me a glass of Jack Daniels the second we walk in the door because 'if you're working over Thanksgiving, then you at least can drink at the same time.'

Oh, and the dad was late to his daughter's pizza party because he HAD to go to taco Tuesday with his GF's daughter and some friends of the GF. He originally started doing taco Tuesday with his son and his son's best friend when they were 10. Neither of them go any longer because well all that stuff I talked about in the other thread. But, by gosh, the dad has to keep going!

I’m down to pay gas money for @OscarMadison to drive to Arkansas and open up on this sperm donor with both barrels.

For those who have experienced both - what are the differences between Canadian Thanksgiving and Real Thanksgiving? Is there football on the day? Parades? Other traditions?

Thanksgiving with my little imperfect family this year: my live-in boyfriend (mom's finally gotten over the "living with sin" nonsense and seems to be happy that I won't die alone), his teenage twin children, his half-brother, half-brother's girlfriend and my parents. So far I had to introduce the boyfriend to the WKRP Turkey Drop episode. (He laughed during Les Nessman's broadcast so I am going to keep him around.)

And my parents are staying at a hotel, which is the perfect spot. I also have one bottle of wine for every day they are going to be here.
