No. I'll be reporter/photographer. The other sports reporter, who shoots photos as good as, if not better, than me will also be shuffled around I fear.

And, there is one cityside reporter who can shoot.

It's quickly becoming obvious quality is not of the main concern.

 

Just another sign of the times. Both local dailies here cut loose their full-time photographers as of the end of February; citysiders now shoot for their own stories, and sports brings in a part-timer on an hourly basis.

That doesn't make your situation suck any less. Good luck, man ...

 

WTF?!?! Maybe I'm misreading you here, but it sounds like that would make single people more expendable. That would be equally as illegal as discriminating on any other basis.

And nobody realizes this or cares.

Dude, have you not this thread. This relates to the people who are asking in employment downsizing situations why these people with kids feel entitled to keeping thier jobs over the single employees. I could of left "white guy" out, but those who get it know what I am talking about, and it's not a racist thing at all. Just the way certain things have turned out. If you don't get it don't rack your brain trying to figure it out.
I really meant to focus the post on single employees. Hope I didn't offend anyone. Not my intention. I apologize if I have.

Pete...the best to you and keep contributing to your paper the way you have. Obviously, some of the higher ups there don't have a realization as to what you mean to your paper.
On the subject of photography, I've come to love that part of my job as much as being a sportswriter..granted, a small daily requires one to double up on duties, but I've found it complements the writing and comes in handy if a moive in professions is required. I feel I can contribute as much photo-wise as I can writing. No brag, but hell, I can get just as good and sometimes better sports action pics than a staff photographer whose main role is snapping pics. I've made it a point to continue to get better as a photographer.
So keep doing the great job that you've been ding at your place and continue to keep the faith that things can better in the future. For you and all of us in this profession.

 

If we're trying to protect kids, we should probably force the journalists with kids to get out first.
