Yep. They hired the AD, who would presumably get no administrative pushback for hiring Briles. If Liberty balked at Briles, the Republican National Committee would start calling them RINOs.

 

Southern Mississippi head coach wanted to hire Art Briles as OC, university (perhaps in response to criticism and budding protest) said no.

SoMiss released this statement:

"We have met with Art Briles regarding a position with the Southern Miss football program," the statement read. "Following that meeting, we informed him that he is not a candidate. The University will have no further comment on this matter."

Basically, Twitter blew up and the AD had a lot of people on his ass about it, so they essentially said "Oh, hell no. Please forget that we mentioned the idea".

Hopson released his statement after this from the AD. I'm guessing that he's desperate for offense.

 

If Ken Starr can get reverential treatment on State Run Media and from POTUS, Art Briles should get a job at SoMiss.

As for Briles and Baylor, screw them. When the now former Title IX coordinator was in her first months on the job, she was told not to reference research suggesting that one of every five college women are sexually assaulted. Her superiors told her such information was just "libruhl propaganda" and that she couldn't speak of it again. Again, this fits perfectly with Trumpists' Biblical worldview that a woman's job is to obey the man and that sexual assault does not exist.
Now comes Jay Hopson trying to shame those who don't want an enabler of rape on the campus. He tells us in his passionate, typo-filled, stylistically challenged, poorly spelled, grammatically wretched statement that he believes in Jesus. He implies that those who object to his desire to bring Briles aboard are heathens. A tip of the hat to Southern Miss for taking an action that will drive Trumpists crazy.

 

Deadspin checks in on Ole Art, and don't worry, everything is on the level at the Texas 3A program he's at now. (Except that he was hired in practically the dead of night, on the recommendation of a former colleague, and since becoming coach an assistant coach he used to coach tried to bring in two ringers from Colorado). Outside of that though, things are great.

 

Briles is a worm. I did, however, get a kick out of this line in an otherwise good story.
