Great point about Cunningham and George. But dosn't Culpepper have talent around him in Miami? I mean, Chris Chambers isn't Randy Moss, but he's still pretty damn good. The same goes for Randy McMichael and Ronnie Brown. Yeah, his arm strength is a question because he's throwing flat footed. But that's because he's coming off an injury. Another point is that he dosn't have to worry about his teammates because they were getting open last night. He just couldn't get the ball to them at times. I think throwing flat-footed could be fixed and that's were Nick Saban comes in.

All points well taken, but let us all remember that this is a veteran quarterback, back after nearly a year off of live NFL competition who has barely played any preseason with defenders who weren't on his own team with new schemes, on a new team, trying to develop new timing and communication with a receiving corps - other than Chambers and McMichael - that have barely been there longer than he is. He played well at times, although far from great, and did commit a lot of mistakes late, although some of those you have to give to Pitts' defense for making good plays - which the Dolphins certainly did not do much of several times when they needed to last night.
It's the season-opener people. While I certainly agree that some of this boisterous talk of SuperBowls and the like is undeserved, even the greatest of teams in SuperBowl years get shutdown or beaten.
Except for the 1972 Dolphins. Let's just wait and see.

P.S. - And as for Harrington to start by midseason Whitlock? Culpepper's been given the keys. Harrington may see some playing time at one point or other, but only an injury takes him out of the starting role.

Harrington had some reps with the first team in preseason and looked sharp.
If Culpepper plays like crap against Buffalo, you'll hear "We want Joey" chants at Dolphin Stadium in week 3 against the Titans (and since I'll be there for that one, I may be leading them).

If he does end up having a bad game against the horrible Buffalo defense, I'll start to worry about him.

Does anyone really believe the Dolphins would be better off with Joey Harrington at QB than Daunte Culpepper? Let's look at the track record:

Culpepper -- Three Pro Bowls, four 3,000-yard seasons, one 4,000-yard season, 64 percent, 135 TDs to 86 INTs (coming into this season), 5.5 yards per rush and 29 rushing TDs in six seasons (he didn't play as a rookie).

Harrington -- No Pro Bowls (duh), one 3,000-yard season (3,047 in 2004), 54.7 percent, 60 TDs to 62 INTs, one season with more TDs than INTs, 3.2 yards per rush and no rushing TDs in four seasons, benched for Jeff Garcia and run out of Detroit.

The only way Harrington becomes the starter is if they carry Daunte off the field. I'm not saying Culpepper is John Elway Jr., but Joey Harrington? Come on.

I'm not sure even Joey believes the Dolphins are better with him in there than with Culpepper.

    It's.
    One.
    Game.

    *deep breaths*

Harrington won't be supplanting Culpepper unless Daunte's unable to go.

  7. Sorry to thread jack, but did anyone she Joey Porter fucking KISS his coach on the cheek/neck last night after the game?

    Exactly. Why does that matter?

It's not like Porter slipped him the tongue.

This is a game where the star player spends a good portion of the night with his hands down between another man's legs. I think we can all get over a kiss on the cheek.

    Here are the preseason stats:
NAME ATT. CMP. YDS. PCT. TD INT LG SACK RATING
    Lemon 59 42 450 71.2 2 0 37 4/20 104.5
    Harrington 56 30 292 53.6 2 0 21t 4/17 80.4
    Culpepper 30 22 218 73.3 0 0 20 2/16 93.5

If you go by this, then Cleo Lemon should be starting.
    Wow.
Crazy thing is, if Culpepper and Harrington both suck, I know Dolphins fans will want Lemon to get a shot (except this one).

  11. Cleo Lemon should be starting for so many reasons, chief among them, his name.
