I think 3OF was referring to Matt Ryan. Are you talking about Rex?

Can we all at least agree Ryan deserves to be fired?

Substitute "desires" for "deserves" and I'm with you all the way.

You can say the same thing about Ryan in the home playoff loss to the Packers a few years back where he was just owned. Granted, he was just in his third season, but he looked scared out there.

People keep saying, "Well, the Falcons are healthy, they should be better." Well, the offensive line isn't healthy and their defense is the worst in the NFL.

I could think of worse moves than handing this team to Rex Ryan and have him overhaul the defense.

I would agree. I think he deserves a shot elsewhere, and I hope he's learned from his mistakes and gaffes (like it or not, coaches have to be CEOs, even if they're friendly, candid ones) but it's time. They need a total overhaul, and having him out there potentially putting his foot in his mouth about Jameis Winston or whomever your next savior is allegedly going to be is not going to work.

I do think your point about if he's such a defensive savant, how come he can't help his quarterback figure out how to attack a defense better, is a fair one. It seems like there should be SOME correlation between the two. A good coach is supposed to be a good coach, right? After all, it's just teaching and film study. But it never seems to work that way, for whatever reason. Juan Castillo's brief stint as a defensive coordinator is a good example. Belichick is sort of the rare bird who managed to prove he could do both (proving it that year he said fuck it I'll be my own offensive coordinator), but again, easier when you've got Tom Brady.

EDIT: Just saw that 3OF was talking about Rex. Woot!

I've never sat down with Ryan, but there's very little doubt in my mind that you could put on film of any defense of any football team in the world and he could tell you the best way to attack it - where its weakness was on any given play. But that's not enough. He's got to translate that in to something his QB can understand and recall on the fly. And that's the tough part. And, 1) Something that's probably an all-day, year-long job that he'd have to give up focus on his D to do. And 2) It's possible that Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith would struggle even with the best tutors (the knock on Geno in college was that he had no clue how to read a D and that hasn't changed).

About a month ago Rex came out in his press conference and mocked Bill Belichick.
This is why the Jets are the Jets.
His father was naturally droll and wouldn't play the fool, which the son is only too pleased to do.
At least one of the Ryan twins once mused he couldn't get a head job because he was fat- maybe it's because he isn't CEO material?
Dick LeBeau is another example of an outstanding coordinator who sucked as a head coach.

    Who gets fired first?

    Mike Smith or Rex Ryan.
