If it was an online hoax, who was the chick he met at Stanford?

Michelle Wie. That's a whole 'nother story.

Those pictures of the 'girlfriend' (that were obviously of another woman) appeared pretty regularly, didn't they? No one noticed and said, 'hey, I know her, not dead'...?

I'm gay, so I'm going to make up a fake girlfriend and talk about her? Why not just say "I'm LDS and am saving myself for marriage, that's why I'm not hooking up with Notre Dame girls."

I'll bet that Teo is gay and extremely fearful of being his true self because of the Mormon culture he grew up in, therefore he went along with this dead girlfriend story. You ain't going to Mormon heaven if you're gay. And then to go from that to the ultimate Catholic university?

OK, it's one thing to be intrigued by the theory. But I think the whole "covering up his real love interest" story is being piled on as truth a little too quickly.

Why does he have to hook up? He could be seen with or date other girls. Maybe one would be the one he's saving himself for.

Crazy story, but i think the Pulitzer talk is a little overboard.

Did anyone read that and think they really don't know how to write a news story?

They never seemed to pin down whether this dude really was responsible for the hoax, and whether Te'o was involved is a huge hole in the story. Someone suggests it in about 150th graf. That dramatically changes the story if he's the victim or the perpetrator, no?

And the fact that they didn't even talk to Te'o? If you've got a story this big, don't just try one cell call to some number you think is his... get someone to freakin South Bend and sit at his door till you see the guy.

I think it's incredible detail to come up with proof that it was a hoax, but they seem pretty short in putting together the who, how, why, when.

I wonder if they weren't done reporting but pushed it out there because they thought someone else might be on to it?

  11. If it was some sort of coverup for being gay, why would they kill her off? Come on.

Only thing I can think of is because such a ruse isn't viable for the long haul. It's a heckuva lot more extreme than just "breaking up," though.
