There has never been a better night to know a Notre Dame fan on any social media. They are trying so hard, and it's hilarious.

The plot point we've all been waiting for: a fake fake girlfriend.

Count me in the T'eo-is-probably-gay camp and was in on this from the start to protect his NFL career.

Had today's news not broken, he could have played his entire NFL career and, I theorize, in his mind, nobody would have wondered why he didn't have a wife/girlfriend/etc. It would have given him an easy out -- he's still in mourning and too distraught to date.

Next we find out his father's name is not really Brian. He just does not look like a Brian.

So why does he tell Notre Dame in December?

I think that the only way out of this for Te'o is to claim he is suffering from concussion syndrome and start a lawsuit against ND.

I assume that's when the Deadspin guys tried to contact him about it and he had no choice but to tell Notre Dame.

As someone noted on Twitter, to salvage his public reputation he has to convince people he's an idiot. Not an enviable position.

LTL, Think I saw Burke say he was tipped off to the story just last week.

I frequently think that a group of sportswriters are subconsciously drawn to the best stories as being true, regardless of how likely they are. Him being gay and using this to protect himself would make for an awesome story. It still seems farfetched to me. Or at least, no reason it should be the leader in the clubhouse.
