If Te'o was gay and trying to hide it, he should have contacted Casey:

Notre Dame has had George O'Leary and Manti Te'o, and still its greatest fraud was Charlie Weis.

Swarbrick claimed that Teo ( losing the apostrophe for speed from now on) received a phone from someone on 12 /20 claiming that the girl was alive. Teo recognized the number as the same as his "girlfriend"

Because no one can keep a secret forever. Even if Te'o had managed to quiet everything, someone would have cracked and someone else would have put together the pieces.

Yep, I'd guess Te'o gave himself an escape hatch in case details started to trickle out -- at the first sign of trouble, peddle the "I was duped" story to Notre Dame and get their PR machine to bury/kill it.

Remember, those tweets in STG's post a page back were from as far back as Dec. 14 when this @jayRahz character tweeted that it was a fraud. It's fair to wonder if THAT is what spooked Te'o into talking to Notre Dame, not necessarily Deadspin.

He makes a good point about the Deadspin piece, which for the most part is very careful about speculating whether he was in on it. Then drops in the line from someone who thinks he's "80 percent sure" Manti was in on it, a meaningless number, since 14 percent of people know you can come up with a statistic for anything.

  8. Maybe we can find out why Te'o didn't on a mission.

Was his fake dead girlfriend Mormon?

Let's not gloss over all these tweets STG has found. Because Wetzel and Dietsch are giving him some cred along with a bunch of other people. Looks like a couple people knew this was fake the entire time.

So what if Te'o actually did get duped and found out and then had too much pride to admit he was wrong? Is that still a plausible argument? I'm completely stumped at this point.

It's plausible, but dang that's a huge level of dumb. Which is what kids his age often are, but dang.

What if he and the Tuiasosopo dude were actually in a relationship, and this was to cover that?

Manti is now on a sliding scale:

COMPLETE IMBECILE <<<<<<<<<<<<---->>>>>>>>>>>>>> FIENDISHLY DEVIOUS SCAMSTER

So basicaly he has to decide where on that sliding scale he wants to be.
