ND says it hired the PI in December, while Manli was still a player.

I don't know. Being obnoxious about it is the Deadspin brand. What did you expect?

Yes. They were all convinced they were talking to a girl. I can't remember "her" name now, but apparently Jeff (his name) could do a very good girl's voice. He did not have any "accomplices".

I wasn't sure since they rarely break this kind of big news. But you're right. It's their brand.

And again, they did a fine job with the story. Kudos to them.

    Agree with your first assertion.

Disagree with the second - insofar as it's well known how often legacy media fails (daily, hourly), and how blogs can run rings around them (because they don't have to play by the same rules, etc., yaddayadda), and because the stakes in this case are so laughably, incredibly low.

And relevant to media development also as a reminder that while there's a market for the mockery of "infantilizing stories" like these which allows a Deadspin to exist, there's a market many orders of magnitude larger for the very "simpering crap" it despises.

    I've been to College Station. It's a toss-up.

If that was the case it sure did not play in the Midwestern region of voting where Teo finished 2nd in voting. You would think that would have been the region where he got the most votes.

The guy behind the fake girlfriend seems to have really enjoyed fucking with people:

Just happy a thread I started went beyond 1 page. Most die after 1 or two replies. Thanks, Manti, Deadspin.

Again: He wasn't a Heisman candidate when the girlfriend story broke!

If he made it up, it was to pull a fast one on classmates and teammates. Not us or the public.

Random thought I had today: Given Notre Dame football's body count in recent years, is it possible that she was real and the hoax is a cover-up to another death?
