Shouldn't you be over on the conspiracy theory thread?

Anonymous Notre Dame player: "He lied. ... He should have never brought her in the media. His grandma passing was enough.”

Notre Dame student writes that the student body always thought something fishy was going on:

Just as I knew the Ravens were going to win last weekend and Netflix stock would tank once it hit $300.

I think he probably embellished it to give the media what it wanted at first. I doubt the Heisman played into it since he wasn't a big Heisman candidate at that point. I keep saying that he wasn't a big star at that point, and that's true - nationally. But he was the Mayor of South Bend by that point, and that's the media bubble he was in.

The Thamel transcript is bizarre. Shows readers, I think, what we have to work with sometimes to put these stories together.

This is a fair question, I think, in light of the following quote. Do writers frequently turn off the bullshit meter when their subjects go god-squadder on them? Is it taboo, even subconsciously, to question Te'o once he starts invoking "the heavenly father"?

Lennay was so special. Her relationship with the heavenly father was so strong. She's so humble, hard working. And her main thing was her family. Her family was everything to her. As long as she took care of her family. And as long as she knew that her relationship with our heavenly father was strong, she had faith that everyone would work out. With her it was just always loving God and her family. I was just blessed to be part of that.

    Oh, puke.

God god god god god. I am getting really fed up with all the god crap coming out of athletes.

That means you too, fucking Tebow. And Ray. And everyone else.

Stick to the sports aspect of it, and leave the god stuff to your private lives.

    Sheesh.

When I was in college, there was this guy in my dorm who wasn't very popular with the women. So this other guy on his floor decides to prank him a few days before Valentine's Day.

The victim starts receiving gifts on his door from a "Secret Admirer". Candy, a card, a balloon. Victim starts wondering what girl likes him and starts asking several of us to try to find out who was sending them. Nobody could figure out who.

Then the victim gets a note, telling him to go to this specific spot on Valentine's Day, and he will meet his admirer. Victim gets all excited, dresses nice, and goes to the spot. Nobody shows. Victim goes back to his dorm feeling pretty low, and the perp, who lived down the hall at him starts laughing at the poor guy and tells him that it was a joke and says he's going to spread it around that the kid fell victim to the joke.

The victim then turns it around on the perp, tells him that he was flattered at the attention, but that he wasn't gay. Perp tries to blow it off, but then the victim went around the dorm and told everyone that the perp was making a pass at him by sending all the gifts and notes and that the perp was gay. Perp got pretty pissed off and even threatened the victim and told him to stop. Didn't work. The rumor mill was in full swing. If I'm remembering right, the perp didn't hook up for the rest of the semester.

Awful Announcing finds Te'o was still pushing the dead girlfriend story two days after he claims he learned it was a hoax.

So Te'o had a real girlfriend in South Bend, but was telling the media about a dead, fake one? That makes zero sense. And probably didn't go over well with the girl he was allegedly dating before the fake death happened.
