love the fact he claims to be a Christian Pastor. Jesus has fingers throughout this hoax. Mormon faith, Catholic School, Christian Pastor mastermind.

I don't know. Usually the biggest liars come up with the most detail. Look at Stephen Glass. Coming up with antecdotes makes a story/person/situation more credible. Like the saying goes, the devil is in the details.
Personally, I think Te'o is in on it. People are still giving him an out with the "I think he was duped" line. Wow, just wow.

Is this the explanation that is coming?

I think he was both duped and in on it.

It seems pretty clear that at some point, his "friend" or whatever duped him into thinking this fictitious woman was interested in him, and that it was the woman from the Stanford game.

It seems equally clear that Te'o knew that at some point, probably fairly early on, and encouraged the story that he had this amazing long-distance girlfriend for various reasons. Then, when the story started to become national, well, it's always easier to tell one more lie and hope that the cover stays up than it is to come clean.

This, posted earlier by YankeeFan, points pretty damningly in the direction of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo:

Clearly, he had a lot to do with it. The question, now, is whether Manti did, too. I just don't see how he couldn't have. And yet I have absolutely no idea why - outside of a pathological need for friends and attention - he would.

Let these two facts sink in:

12/6 Te'o goes to ND and tells of hoax

12/8 Te'o during Heisman telecast continues to talk about loss of GF.

    He is not without fault.

That Thamel transcript is something. How do you go on a date with someone on line?
Here for example I guess you could invite them to join you on a thread.

"Hey babe what are you doing tonight? Wanna join me on the politics thread for a couple of posts?"

Do we know if he met anyone at the Stanford game.

I'm willing to believe his "friend" impersonated a girl he did meet once in real life, but Deadspin seemed to have pinned down when they "met" online.

I think he just told people he met her at the Stanford game so they wouldn't think he was a loser with an internet "girlfriend" he had only met online.

No Skype, Face Time or some other form of video chat with his girl of three years? Just doesn't make sense.
