    Dear Lady on the phone,
No, we do not put all of our pictures online. And no, we didn't have a photographer available for two games from late Saturday night, so there are no pictures of those game in today's paper.

I'm sorry if you feel that's "dumb" on our part, but we weren't going to send our only photographer 90-some minutes away for a game when we had other stuff to get to that night.

Yeah, the game I covered was right after the game our photog got shots from but she had another assignment -- not to mention a district soccer game -- to get to as well.

Thanks for calling and bitching to me about nothing I had no control over.

There were a few guys like that. That was the best thing about the league.

I'm trying to remember if there was anyone previously listed as 6'9" or if 6'8" was the "record".

One high school I covered had their top female athlete listed at 5-9 in volleyball and 5-10 in basketball. When she signed her LOI, the college's news release had her at 5-10. First question from me when I did the story: "How tall are you?"

  4. As far as I'm concerned, an inch difference is acceptable compared to some of the rosters I've seen.

    I've been 6-1, 185 in my mind since 1995...

There's a pretty good HS running back in Kentucky who is listed at one weight for football and another for wrestling (undefeated weight class state champ).

The football roster is understandable (the old add 2 inches and 15 pounds rule to every player). And it might be to help him get recruited for a football scholarship.

However, you can only cut so much weight in wrestling. And there's no way he'd be wrestling in the weight class he's in ... unless the football roster was completely inaccurate.

I know this thread is titles "Dear dimwit on the phone" so allow me to go off-topic for a second with a "Dear psychotic, yelling bitch on the phone"
Yes, we sure did get a JV football score last night, and that was it, just a score, so I couldn't run a full boxscore like you seem to by dying for. I ran the linescore in agate which is about what JV football deserves. And yes, I do run full boxscores for other sports and varsity games. because they are VARSITY. I'm not running a full boxscore for JV soccer or JV volleyball.
As for your "I know the coach called it in" check again, bitch. He called in the score. I asked if he had more than that. He said he knew who scored for them in their 26-6 loss, but not how long of a score it was, how many rushing yards total anyone had, or who scored for the other team. I'm not printing a box score if I have less than half the info I need, you clueless fucktard.
And another thing, I am deliberately sinking Little Jimmy's chance at a scholarship because I hate you. Eat a bag of dicks you whore.

Complaining callers are always certain that "the coach" called it in.

In the line of those who have complained about the disclaimer call, I got one from a woman who starts with "I don't mean to be critical or rude or anything but ..." And my eyes immediately roll back in my head.
Here issue was a headline that said "two residents murdered" (We're in a small town that has one murder every 10 years, so this was a big deal). She said she saw the two residents but only one murder.
We'll, there's to subhedes, I tell her. One that says the guy was killed out of town and the other that says one was killed in town.
She stutters for a second, then "Oh, I see what you did. OK. I'm sorry. Can you send me back to circulation so I can subscribe to your paper."
Happy ending to a potentially terrible situation.

Not quite dimwit on the phone, but Twitter and power outages bring out the best in people:

Many times, it's because the coach told them he/she called in, to cover their own ass.

@ ColdCat...I think we can be pretty sure who scored the team's six points that night...ya'think? It might be Little Johnnies only touchdown ever, it screams for a banner headline, at least 80 point. Ughh
