    That seems a bit unprofessional.

Dear dimwit at the rival weekly,
The photo you ran in this week's edition is not the Golden Gate Bridge as mentioned in your caption. The bridge in your photo is not orange, its gray! Oh, you didn't catch the mistake in the submitted cutline you received? How? The second I read it, I e-mailed the person who submitted the photo AND COPIED YOU GUYS ON THAT E-MAIL THAT IT WAS THE BAY BRIDGE!
Thanks for showing me that fail doesn't just happen to the people who do put out a paper five times as much as you.

    Sincerely,
    Spartan

Not a dimwit on the phone, but an advertising rep on e-mail:

We have an advertiser who sponsors a FB player of the week ad each week. Our prep guys get together on Monday and pick one, then we e-mail a picture and a graf to the rep for the ad.

So this week comes a return e-mail. The ad rep will be on vacation next week and could we submit next week's player of the week in advance? Uh, we can't pick the player of the week until the freaking games are played. "Oh well," says the rep. "It was worth a shot."

Doesn't the rep have someone filling in while he's away?

Just take Little Johnny. He always tries really, really hard and it would help his chances for a scholarship.

  9. Dear local minor league PR guy,

I'm sorry there wasn't a breakout box that included your promotions for the next night's game, but it isn't my job to write what you plan to give away. It is my job to write about your team, which I did with a story about your rookie who had a strong showing in the last two games. We had space issues because our advertising department put a fairly large ad on that page, and I wanted to talk more about why your player is succeeding rather than leave out a good detail to talk about a stuffed animal donation.

I'll write about your team for free, but if you want something about your promos, you can buy an advertisement like everyone else.

But how else is he going to get out information about the magnet schedule give away? They're going to be giving away $11,111.11 next week, so how can they afford to buy advertising? Last time I clean the trash out of the closet that we call a press box for you! Hmmph!

And he tries just as hard as Little Jimmy too ...

Tonight in Oregon we had our "play-in" football Friday, which means a pack of 2-7 teams take on a bunch of 1-8 teams to see who qualifies for the playoffs...this is also known as the Friday I take off from prep football. Tonight that meant junior college volleyball for me.

Why our state lets everyone and anyone into the playoffs is beyond me...I'll check back in when we reach the round where teams with winning records are playing :)
