Again, it's all a matter of drawing lines and prioritizing. If you're in a situation where you feel you have to staff every event in your area, take a time out and reevaluate how you're doing things.

And as much as you try, you're not going to make everyone happy. If you take "just a few minutes" to shoot Podunk East at one tournament, Podunk West is going to want you to shoot "a few minutes" of their tournament, otherwise you're favoring Podunk East. I could make a list, but before you know it, you're working around the clock and giving your time away ...

Wow, I wanna meet her. She sounds fun. I wonder if she's worried about Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr stalking her in an attempt to hold her hand.

I agree, but I also know that you can follow the arrow of your example in the other direction to the place where you aren't doing anything.

If the only two schools you have are Podunk East/West, that's one issue. You should shoot both.
If you have 60 schools ... that's another matter.

How about you shoot neither and enjoy your day off and worry about that shit the next time you have to work?

One of my great moments in journalism came during a high school softball game I was covering. Some parent was talking about her daughter on the JV team and (not in a dickish way) asked why we don't cover the JV.
I looked her in the eye and said (also not in a dickish way), "Do you have a family? You like to see them, right? Well, so do I."
Got the point across pretty clearly, it seemed.

Oh, yeah, this was in the context of "a day off." I vaguely recall those.

Interesting call on the newsroom voicemail. . . .
"If you're going to run one person's photo for an alleged sexual assault you should run everybody's"

So. . ."My kid rapes just as hard."

Um, yeah. I suppose the junior varsity rapists deserve coverage, too. What Bizarro World logic was that caller following?

We'd fouled up a kid's name in a basketball gamer (Fisk instead of Sisk, let's say) and mom called the next day and tried to drop the "we're trying to get him a scholarship" deal on me. I've always heard others talk about that, but I'm not sure I recall hearing that before.

I was nice, but had to say, "I doubt that will be an issue, but we'll be happy to correct it."

Later, I checked the box. Her kid didn't break double figures. Unless he's 7 feet tall -- and h's not -- h's not going to get much scholarship run by throwing up 6 a night.

Here is the Bizarro World double standard at play in some police departments - They won't give you sexual assault information involving family members (i.e. father on daughter) because it would identify the victim, although it's probably just as if not worse than if a stranger had done the same thing. That's the only context I can think of though that the caller isn't a complete loony.

It sounds more like the person calling is in support of the person pictured, and wondering why their favorite rapist gets the infamy of a picture when others do not, IMO.

that's how I took it, too.
