Seniors on JV? They don't do that 'round here. I think it's a league policy. Which, of course, couldn't lead to anything bad.

I've seen it before, but only with first-year players and stuff like that. I don't know whether that was the case here.

I still wish that kid would have said, "I did this to show all of you that your priorities are really fucked up. You don't do this for the chemistry kids."

After extensive research (or 30 seconds on Google...whatever), I found out the kid ended up at a junior college...for four years. Played one year. Sat out a year with a knee injury. Sat out another year due to academic issues and worked as a volunteer coach. He just signed with D-II Western Missouri State, where he has two years of eligibility left. Had he signed with a D1 school, he would have had one year remaining.

Likewise. In Rhode Island, you can play on junior varsity as a senior if it's your first year doing the sport.

    Yes...love the Senior Night calls...
"Well, it's also Senior Night at five other schools in our area tonight, and I'm the only reporter, so guess what I'm picking the game that matters most Senior Night or not."

Strange that when they're in JV, it's "they work just as hard," but a few years later, it's "they're seniors."

Not a journalism call but I think it meets the dimwit standard....

Me, a consulting project manager, calling my company's home office from a client site: Hi Intern. I just got the boxes you shipped. There is a little problem though.

    Intern: Ok, what's the problem.

Me: Well, it was supposed to be one box of supplies and one printer. I got the box of supplies but the other box doesn't have a printer. It has more than 35 pot pipes.

Intern: Oh.... I am pretty much fired right?

I've always been fascinated by the tears and rending of garments that occurs on senior night, only to have the team host a playoff game a week or so later.

  10. Had something similar the other night. Covering a high school girls' hockey playoff game the winning team, all the girls that did something in the damn game were freshman. After the game the other two reporters and I that were there went and interviewed the coach. After we interviewed the coach we asked for the goalie (freshman) who had a shutout and one of the goal scorers (a freshman). Coach said he wasn't making them available, but we could talk to the senior and junior captains on winning their first playoff game but did absolutely nothing in the game.

We ended up talking to these girls, but it was sure awkward.

At that point, I might be inclined to say, "Thanks, Coach," and go back to the office. I'm as big an advocate for the player perspective as anyone, but said player(s) need(s) to, you know, do something in the game.

Yeah, sorry coach, I want to talk to the players relevant to the final outcome, not players who happen to be one the same team as those who were relevant.
