Yes crimson...and that's pretty close to what I said in a final email to this lady.

Similar thing happened years ago when I went into a local market. Lady comes up to me and, after asking if I worked at the paper, asked why the Greater Podunk FFA results from the fair hadn't been in yet.
"I don't know. I've been on vacation and that's something the news side would handle. Have you called them."
"Well. Podunk's got in, and we know you are the Podunk Press, so you wouldn't put in stuff from Greater Podunk."
"Like I said ma'am, you'd have toask the news people. I've been out of the office and maybe they didn't get them from the fair yet ..."

Never ceases to amaze how often people hang to their preconceived notions despite being given several doses of reality.

Yes, part of this ladies argument came down to why we were covering a game that same night between a pair of state top-10 schools fighting to clinch a playoff spot, rather than Podunk High, which as I mentioned, just won it's first league game.
Must say that was a pretty easy decision when we were in our assignment meeting.

Basically, comes down to her being excited that her team finally won a game I'm guessing. But it's not like we have a crystal ball saying when an upset is going to happen and when a team is going to take it's typical 30-point lumps.

Maybe it's just me, but the correct answer would seem to be: "I don't know. Let me jot down you number, I'll find and out either I will call you or someone else will who knows more about this."

Seems to me if you're in the supermarket, off the clock, you're under no obligation to connect this person to the right people. I think this answer is more than polite and professional.

I mean, otherwise we're saying you're never allowed to have a life. And I'll be damned if I'm going to see why some lady's classified ad didn't run in our paper when I'm in the strip club making it rain.

Maybe it is just you .. because if I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation.

Getting the old bat's number though probably ends the conversation quicker than trying to explain things to her.

I haven't said this in a long time, but I'm completely in Henry's corner on this one.

Edit: I'm also under no illusion that anyone here really gives a fuck about what I think.

    Dear SID,

Sorry I didn't include a player's milestone in the weekend notebook. There are twelve teams in my conference, and try as I might, I can't keep up with each and every one. Maybe you should have added me to your release list when I emailed every SID at the start of the year to introduce myself.

    Dear Parent at booster event,

Yes, I do have another event to go to... and by that I mean I'm booking out of here after your keynote speaker hasn't shown after nearly two hours and no one can contact him. That "other event" is my free Sunday afternoon ticking away.

good for you nate...here's hoping you didn't waste too much of your off day sitting around at something like that. Nothing worse than a disorganized weekend event filled with idiots expecting a front-page spread.

thanks...honestly it wasn't terrible, I sat there and watched the games they were showing and gave into the buffet after an hour. the organizer was totally understanding and I got some background info. from her so we'll run something.

It was just an off-hand remark will no ill intent but I wasn't about to stay after setting a mental deadline as to when I would book if this guy didn't show.

I should have clarified earlier. This wasn't a reading our website vs. our paper, this was getting a piece of information that was posted on our web (I think the guy was trying to sign up for some even we're doing). I love that someone reads our paper still, but this was more the fact that there was a conversation where a dude had never heard of Google.
