    Dear D-I school photographer,

No, we are not paying you for your pics after we were told by the SID that it wouldn't be a problem for you to send us pics of the basketball game last night.
Don't send us an e-mail 80 minutes before deadline asking to be compensated before you send us hi-res pics. Your low-res pics that you sent with the asking for money are good enough for the 1-column photo we need anyway.

    Thanks for being "helpful."

I guess it depends on your arrangement with the school, but I don't have a problem with the guy asking for a freelance fee for his work.

We have a photographer who hits all the big events in our local junior-college circuit. We know he's going to be at the big events, often ones far enough away that we can't send a reporter, so we either use file art or on rare occasions we'll send the guy a bone. He does a great job, and I wish we could use him more often...just not in the budget as much as I'd like.

Kind of echoing Flex here, are you sure the SID wasn't just overstepping a bit? The local college does let us use photos, but it has to be stuff already up on their website. Anything beyond that, and I imagine the photog still owns the copyright on it or something.

If you are an employee of the school and are told by the SID to send pics to us...how does that mean "we are paying you extra."
I am fine for paying the person...but let's get that out of the way at 4 or 5 p.m. when the boss is in the office, not 30 minutes before deadline.

Yes, that part is correct. Don't hold the newspaper hostage. I'm wondering if he was privy to what the SID had agreed to?

    Dear cranky old man,
No, we're not running a correction on today's prep baseball roundup because the coach gave a batter your grandson was pitching to a hit, at a game we did not witness, just because you thought it was an error.

    Dear Geography flunky,

You do not have to hold for three minutes to ask a sports guy where the town of Podunk is just because Podunk High is playing basketball on TV right now. The nice newslady who answered the phone, put you on hold and transferred you three minutes later could have easily told you where Podunk is.

Dear track nutjob......I know your son won his 13th race of the season last week in some madeup weekend non-school league that he and 13 other kids run in. Just because you hold an event and call it a county championship track meet does not mean it is, especially when only 2 events were held because no one showed up to run in it. He won the mile, against one other guy, to me that is practice.

Dear Golf dad.......Your son has done well this year, three rounds in the 30's in nine-hole events, but when he shoots a 46 I still have to print it. I am not causing him to lose a scholarship, he is just a sophomore.

Dear irate baseball dad........Your son had three hits in the game, not four. I have scored a few baseball games in my time, and I have never seen a player given a hit when the first baseman picks up a slow roller, drops the ball out of his glove and kicks it to the backstop while trying to pick it up.

Dear cheerleader people.......I was at a basketball game and you performed so I took a picture of the performance and yes I ran a picture of a girl doing a flip infront of the rest of the cheerleaders. I tried to take an action shot so it would look like the girls were doing something other than texting each other while the game was going on. Please excuse me for apparently showing a cheerleaders panties in the picture, but your overwhelming complaints have shown me again why I never cover cheerleading because you are all nuts.

I wish I had sent all those emails, but I only got to send the last one.

No sir, I don't know why the local radio stations aren't broadcasting more high school basketball tournament games. I would guess it's because they can't get enough advertising. No, I don't know that for a fact. Have you tried calling the station? Yes, they could probably answer your question.
