It's a good policy to have. I worked at a weekly that was willie-nilly on whoever, wherever...and it sucked. What pissed me off was kids saying they "signed" with a school and the coach barely knowing who they are. The kid was a "preferred walk-on" for a D-II school. Which means, she is allowed to show up for practice basically. Yippie.
I think she ended up playing some by her senior year and that was about it.

    Dear Cheerleading People,
Good job on getting through the Individual Tournament. I was impressed with how quickly you managed to get through the 80 performances and awards ceremony.
But you can't give me results? What the fuck? You tell me you have to email them to the RIIL first, then when I get the RIIL guy to say it's OK to print me results, you say you can't and have to email them to him. Then I get an email saying you had problems emailing and I wont get them until tomorrow?
You realize your sport is a fucking joke, right? I'm pretty much the only guy in the state who defends you and says not covering you is a shame and then you pull the shit you did tonight? You should be blowing me for the coverage I give your sport.
    Get me my fucking results.

Especially dedicated since you have essentially a 12-hour turnaround time at most, no? I can normally get the one team I cover to send me results, but of course, you have a lot more to worry about then I do in terms of coverage area.

I'm more annoyed because the computer lady told me this:
LADY: "I have to email them to the RIIL first. They have to post them first."
ME: "What if I have the RIIL tell you then can print me results."
LADY: "But then I'd have to print them for everyone."
ME: "How's that? There's only two media members here."

OK, I can understand a line or two in a notebook about a kid choosing where he/she is going to school.

    Really good kid, a story.

But there s no "signing" involved at all in D-III and in many cases in D-II it's a partial anyway.

The photo is for a full-bore Letter of Intent (tm) for an athletic scholarship or an athletic that turns a partial into a full ride.

    My opinion anyway.

We had a kid sign NAIA, he was on the best or second-best team in the area, we were honestly not sure he started at all.

rhody we've been over this before, but you give cheerleaders too much credit by calling the athletes.

OK, everyone has their reasons and it works for them. I'm kind of stuck since most of the scholarship announcements are generated by the school newsers, but it works for me as well.

I think he's simply being respectful, which is refreshing.

They're athletes. Just not playing sports. Like the kids who do track.

I was gonna bring up bowling, but I knew someone would strike me down.
