At least you didn't have a Breonna or Bryanna, other variations of that I've seen.

Basketball team had three Katelynns, all spelled differently. Haven't seen one started with a Q yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

They all got scholarships (no thanks to me), so I don't think they need the business of an Oregonian editor [/crossthread]

Designer names are the bane of the prep writer's existence.

    My favorite: Izek.

Yes. Take a name from the bible and translate it into phonetic "Czech wrestler."

How has Carrie not been brought up? Or is that Kerry or Keri or Kary, Karrie, Cari, Cary, Kari, ......

One time, my predecessor and I jotted down every combination of that sound we could think of. We stopped after we came up with 25 ways to spell it.

And in some of those cases, the spelling could be pronounced "CARE-e" or "CAR-ee" just to add a little more variety.

My sister named her son Dereke.

Yes, with an 'e' on the end.

And like Rhody, I wanted to tell her she spelled it wrong. But she and her worthless asshole of an ex spelled it that way to honor his best friend who passed away a few years ago.

Now that her and that dickbag aren't together anymore, I told her she should change the spelling.

There's a woman I know in my area whose first name is Kellye. She used to pole vault in high school and when she spelled her name for me, she said, "Now, it's the Y that's silent and the E that you pronounce," then laughed and said she got told about how it's misspelled all the time.

New one I overheard in the office today: "It's spelled C-h-e-r-r-y but she pronounces it Sherry."
