Mark: Who is that in response to?

@ Billy T...yes, I would have no problem doing that. As a reporter it is your job to control the interview. I would be polite in the way I went about it, but I would be the one directing the interview.

    My semi-pro football story:

Local guy puts together team last winter. Says he'll get back with us once he gets a schedule set up. We never hear from him again.

Two days ago, a woman who says her husband is a wide receiver on the team sends an e-mail bitching up a storm about how there's been no coverage of the "local minor league" football team. Wants to know why we haven't had any game information, why we didn't do a team preview, etc. So I had one of my reporters call the owner. He says he sold the team to another guy in the area and says, "It's a fucking mess." Our reporter called the new owner, who said he was "busy with practice," and that he would call him back. We still haven't heard back from him.

Best part of the woman's e-mail: "You cover the minor league baseball team all of the time." Yeah, you're right — a Class A baseball team that could have future MLB players playing is comparable to a fly-by-night semi-pro football team that no one seems to know anything about.

OK, you look at things differently than I do.

...but, but...they are both MINOR LEAGUE! Sheesh...it's the same word! That means it's the SAME THING!

New semi-pro owner has called back. He's promising fireworks and beer for their home opener, tentatively scheduled for four weeks from now.

At least she didn't say it was "semi-pro baseball." :)

My owner promised that they've bought TV time to televise future games on the local cable outfit...although it won't be happening this year because they want to wait until the team is good...uh, okay. Oh the pipe dreams of semi-pro people.

speaking of which...would it be fair to classify most bloggers as semi-pro journalists?

When's the new stadium being built? When the crowds get better?

Well the crowds will get bigger once I decide to devote the full sports front to them at least once a week, so I guess I'm slowing down their dreams. :)
