If you blog, there is a chance - albeit a small one - that a big publication will scoop you up and make you rich. Semi-pro football, the Podunk Pissers will not be joining the NFL anytime soon.

Which is why us 'mericuns need that fancy Euro relegation stuff.

Poduck Potlickers win the "Southwest Regional Recreational Football Conference"!!!!...welcome to the NFL!

well not if the local paper refuses to write those season previews, features and gamers. Everyone knows Roger Goodel is one Podunk Press article away from calling up the local semi-pro team and offering them a spot in the league

Ugh, "semi-pro" football teams need to be outlawed. Years ago, our section made the mistake of trying to cover these poor saps. We went to a game which featured a crowd of five people. The players' wives and kids didn't even show up. It's not like we didn't acknowledge it beforehand. We wrote a preview, put it in our schedule, etc. We never went back.

There should be an industry-wide ban on calling it "semi-pro." It's like calling beer league softball "semi-pro."

KY: They came to the office. Still, had been so long since I dealt with "one of those" moms ...

Ugh. I had to deal with a mom like that once. But the kid kicked her out of the room where I was interviewing him. Told her to go sit in the waiting area at the front of the building. It was great. The look on the mom's face was priceless.

Reminds me of our quote of the year one year. From a HS softball pitcher throwing a no-hitter in a playoff game that went extra innings:

"Dad came out and was worried about my arm. I told him to go sit down behind the dugout and shut up."
