I'll mention middle school sports in our Sideline briefs every blue moon, but that's about it. They can wait until preps for more than that.

I always love the argument that so many people will rush the news stand if you'd just print this article that 1) I wrote and 2) I'm interested in. Silly.

    Greenwell,

It was a lady. She is such a nice person and I like her when I deal with her at the race each year (Never see her otherwise) but she was practically berating me about an email I never got and/or knew nothing about. I tried to explain it to her and she spent five minutes explaining to me that we should have put middle school blah blah in because "the rest of what was in there is crap."

Way to warm me up to your cause. :)

Next time tell him, "I think so, let me check . . . "

Then come back and say, "No, sorry."

Do that for three days and he'll stop ;)

Dear golfer at the state amateur tournament here,

We're sorry that we did not mention you in the preview story as one of the local golfers who had a chance to contend for the title. But maybe instead of yelling at our reporter covering the event, you should have worried about that 16-over 88 you shot today, and maybe that's why you weren't listed.

    Signed, me.

@ BillyT...be sure that there is at least a 20-minute pause between the "Let me check" and when you return to the phone to say "No, sorry."

    Dear semipro football coach,
Please have your stats ready before you call me. I don't have time on deadline to listen to you confer with your other coaches on who did what.
    Thank you.

Not too mention that kind of discussion makes you question the validity of what they are telling you. How many times does a coach recount a 75-yard touchdown run with five broken tackles in a situation like that when the reality is someone caught a short pass and ran untouched down the sideline for 40 yards.

This is still my favourite thread on SJ.

Makes me smile every time I read it.

Me too. Makes me realize I'm not alone in receiving douchebag calls and emails. Right now I am ready for youth swimming to be banned.

    OK, I will admit it.

It's the first thing I look for.

We've got some great back-and-forth stuff going on here.

    And some funny moments.

    Fifthed.

I only wish this thread was around when I first started in the business.
