    Dear Golf Mom,
It's great that your son won another tournament, and thanks for the email with today's scores.

But we will NOT be running his photo again just because he won a meaningless regular-season tournament.

    Thank you very much,
    KYSW

    Dear comptroller,
So you thought it was funny to send me an email to as for my autograph because the local news footage had a shot of me in the media scrum interview of a local Olympian? You realize my face is in our newspaper every week, right? And so is my byline? I hate you.

Rhody, I've been in the background of TV shots four or five times. This is ALWAYS noticed by my family members and friends. The best is when this inspires comments like, "Oh, are you still reporting?" No, I just like hanging out by the court house, or at Rhode Island College for championship games, no big deal.

I've always tried to stay out of camera range. My feelings on the matter were reinforced after one of our local high schools won a state football championship a couple of years ago and I was caught on camera interviewing coaches and players on the field. The game was aired live statewide and replayed countless times over the next few months, and every time they zoomed in on some fat redneck sticking a recorder in the face of some teenager. I don't know how many calls and emails I got from people who saw me on TV. It's not like I hadn't been doing the exact same thing after every game for four months.

I made a comment on my hometown TV station's FB to a question and I guess they used it on the air.
I had people contacting me asking when I moved home.
Seriously...I know home is a bit backward, but when it says "Facebook Question of the Day", um, people use facebook, and they can live ANYWHERE! Derp.

  6. Dear rabid minor-league hockey fan,

No, I'm not reporting that your team's coach resigned because my paper and I love negative stories about hockey. I'm reporting it because it happens to be a fairly big story and I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't write something. This story is also not a sign that "I never write any positive stories about hockey." I've actually written several of those, and when I do, I get criticized for not writing enough of those.

Also, in case you hadn't noticed, you're not the Chicago Blackhawks. You're a mid-level minor league team that draws about 3,000 fans a game, and it's August. Go away.

I always got caught in those in college. I often looked like a moron because I'd be standing there, recorder in hand, listening but mostly looking over for what player was getting sent out next because honestly, it'll take the rest of the postgame to get a question in and I don't actually NEED this guy's quotes.

    Dear 9U fall baseball coach,

As I told in the email, we only run our sports calendar in the Monday edition of the newspaper. I'm sorry you didn't send me the email about your tryouts set for Aug. 18 until this morning. But that's a "you" problem, not a "me" problem.

I'll gladly update our online version of the calendar, but I'm not running a special announcement just because you futzed around and didn't get the info to me earlier.

Calling my executive editor and then our publisher won't change that.

But how will they be ready for 10U winter season, 10U spring season, Little League season and 10U fall season?
