It's OK, they'll all be dead soon....then we will start getting calls from people complaining that we are not posting enough content to their tablet soon enough after it happened. Then we will have to defend ourselves that we are working on the story to "get it right, not get it fast" and they will just stop paying for the paywall and read the blogger that is wrong 97% of the time.

We get a lot of that in the comment sections where people bitch and moan about how long it took for the story to go up. Or they'll link to a different website that has different details and tell everyone to go there instead. They're unhappy about our website yet are there all day and night just to tell everyone how unhappy they are about it. It's as pathetic as the people who post 100-200 times in the same story over the course of a few hours.

Well, these companies --- I almost don't dare call them newspapers anymore --- are going to decide what they want to be.

I have enough on my hands trying to write headlines, work the wires, pick and tone photos, edit stories and layout pages without stopping every five minutes to post some update on the damn website or to some tablet. Had more than one blowup with management over that. It's enough that I spend an extra 45-60 minutes AFTER making deadline to post a dozen or more stories online. That should be the responsibility of the online editor.

You want someone to do it in real time, to listen to HS games on the radio and post stuff online as it happens, then you need to hire someone to do THAT job. "I'm a little busy right now, Beavis."

I wish this thread would die. Oh, the irony.

I haven't read this thread til I left print in... damn... June. Time flies. It always gives me a good laugh.

Also, I used to list my cell # in my email signature. That is, until angry baseball parent (god forbid I said his kid, a pitcher, was dealt the loss) started texting me at 11 p.m. Also, I've gotten two calls in the past couple months — one from a coach, another from a source — wanting to get information in the paper. They apparently haven't read the paper at all over the summer to see that I'm no longer there.

Not as long as there are newspapers. And dimwits. And phones.

Facebook Dimwit: Where is the list of the holiday lights, I can't find it anywhere.

Did you try looking in the paper where we printed a map with addresses of decorated houses around town?

Our score-reporting line has been dead for a week. The number of dimwits on our phone has been significantly reduced.

Unfortunately, so has the size of our daily high school roundup.

    Fair tradeoff? ;D

Dear area assistant girls basketball coach,
Not only did you try to leave your varsity box score on the answering machine, you only provided your team's information -- nothing for the other team, no score by quarter, no team records.
Thanks for making my decision on which story goes on the bottom of the roundup an easy one.
