Yep. I always wondered how the hell they expected me to recognize their voice or remember which school they coached at. Thus the form I mentioned earlier: Winning team, score, losing team, score, site of game, etc.

I had to google disk golf. Never had heard of it.

There are actually disk golf tournaments that are quite popular in some places. Wasn't meant as a slight against them. Could have just as easily said "Podunk Triathlon".

There is a course near me - about 5 people know about it, it seems. I played with some buddies in high school, and it's a fun, low key activity. However, we then went to college and forgot all about it, because then you can drink legally.

Those disk golfers work just as hard as everyone else.

We have a major university in our city... and the rival university on the other side of the state, and we get calls all the time from both sides claiming we're biased in favor of the other school.

One for those who have just a cell phone: Mine started ringing the other night just as they were introducing lineups at a basketball game. It was the doctor's office confirming an appointment. I couldn't make it as she was looking for a new date, I had to stand for what turned out to be a pretty sharp sax rendition of the anthem. When the player finished, she asked where I was. "Uh, the basketball game at Podunk JC."

Speaking of minor sports leagues / things, the rugby people have been all over my nuts this week. I do not live in Australia.

Believe it or not, there is a disk golf tour of sorts, where semi-pro disk golfers compete for a bit of prize money. The one in this area has weekend events in Alabama, NW Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. I did a feature on it when they came around here a couple of years ago, and it was a fun story, even though it was colder than hell that afternoon.

I hope you didn't say beforehand that it would be a cold day in hell before you covered disc golf.

There does seem to be a distrubing correlation between rugby people and nuts. However, one story our paper ran on a local club rugby team produced one of the truly great headlines of that, or any other, year: SCRUM LORDS!
