I am not disagreeing with your decision at all.

But you obviously do not work with me, where the boss loves wrestling and other combat sports to the exclusion of all else. Also, wrestling fans around deliver the clicks.

It's an after-thought around here. Hence scheduling the state meet the same weekend as regional basketball, which is HUGE.

In Massachusetts, they try to stagger the state championships as best they can. Which is why wrestling and swimming seasons ended last weekend.

They are paying advertisers and expect to be coddled.

I will bitch about advertising as much as the next guy, but I have seen the crap they get from customers.

I have seen some really decent funeral-home directors, but it's like anything else.

Ohio also staggers its winter championships.
    Swimming was last week.
Wrestling and bowling are this weekend; qualifiers in the former, but not in the latter for us.
Girls basketball is in the district tournament this weekend and boys basketball is in the sectional tournament this weekend.
Though my daily only has a few girls teams left (and plenty of boys teams), I cannot even imagine not covering the the local kids who qualify for the state wrestling tournament.

Kentucky has already had championships in bowling, wrestling, swimming and cheerleading -- yes, they had a "championship" this year. Basketball is at the regional level on both sides. The boys' state tourney starts next week after being moved up a week because Kentucky is hosting the NCAAs this year, and the girls' tourney is the week after that.

Thank goodness, in Mississippi high school cheerleading is an "activity."

Dear flunky at the Section basketball finals: When you say someone will bring us box scores, produce. When you say someone even lower than you will get the people we want to interview, produce. But if you're really want to be taken seriously, don't spend the whole game reading the funnies and doing the suduoku while sitting at the media table.

Caller, perilously close to our scoreboard deadline: "Can you give me the phone # for the TV station's sports department?"

The correct response from our score clerk: "No, I'm sorry, I don't have that handy."

More states should do that. It really does stretch manpower when you have multiple tournaments in different sports being held simultaneously.

    Typical game-night telephone exchange......

TV station: Do you have any scores from tonight?

Colleague: We get them trickling in.

TV station: What have you got?

Colleague: We will post them on our website later this evening.

TV station: That doesn't help me. I've got to go on the air live in 15 minutes.

Colleague: That is not my f***ing problem.
