For whatever reason, the one thing we can't get off GameChanger is positions for each player. Either coaches don't enter them or the software just doesn't allow for it on the box score. Since we run AP-style line scores (pitchers AND catchers, pitchers of record, extra-base hits), it's a pain in the ass.

One thing we did figure out is that if you have the app on a phone or tablet, you can get it to replay the game complete with defensive alignments. From what I've seen, you only get that on the website as the game is being played. We don't always have time to look in on games we're not staffing.

I think that's an issue with the program because the juco's lineup on Gamechanger doesn't list them, either. Since I look at it only for road games, I don't need that because I go with linescores from road games (I stopped listing pitchers and catchers long ago because some coaches didn't put them down accurately.).

Same here. We list pitchers and catchers for both teams, winning and losing pitcher and extra-base hits. Not having who pitched and caught is annoying.

Yes, I would be happy to send "Bonehead Reporter with a camera" to go cover your event. You're kind and polite demeanor has made me put that high on my list of things to do. There is a crap load of things going on that same day, but I will do it just for you. Besides Mr. Bonehead isn't pulling his weight anyway.

Dear grandmother (who used to be a receptionist at our paper and was pretty much hated by everyone here) whose grandson is on one of the local track teams:

Yes, I realize from your e-mail today that you want coverage of your grandson's track team and we should have his team's results in the paper. But apparently you didn't see today's paper, where your grandson's team winning their first outdoor meet of the year was the lead to our prep roundup, and your grandson was mentioned in the third paragraph. Next time, before complaining, look at the paper. Or on the website.

I always love these. Or, the ones where they say you never cover school XYZ, but you just had a reporter and photographer at their most recent game and it was the feature story on 1B.

We had a lady who just started working here come upstairs and ask if we'd do a story on her daughter and her middle school cheerleading team before they head to "nationals" in a few weeks. The team has been in the paper a few times and we mentioned in the last photo about them "qualifying" for "nationals."

And yes, I said middle school cheerleading.

    Pretty much.

And it was funny because she even said "I just started working here, but I was hoping I could get this in the paper."

so who's going to be the first one to take the call from someone saying "Yeah, you guys made a mistake in your baseball standings, you have the Astros listed in the American League."

I had to deal with a caller who said our league leaders were wrong because someone got traded from one league to another. I explained to him how the player's stats still count among that league's leaders until other players pass him and the caller seemed to get what I was saying, then he went right back to claiming the stats were in the wrong league.
