Yeah, I've gotten those kinds of remarks more times than I can count. I just rolled with the punches and I think I made some kind of joke.

 

I've always liked the ones who accuse me of having kids at a certain school ... just to see them shrink to about 3 inches tall when I tell them I don't have kids.

 

I've gotten the "having kids at a certain school" or "having graduated from a certain school" or "being from a certainplace or town" lines. Just makes me shake my head.

 

One lady about six years ago claimed I was biased against one school in my former paper's three-school coverage area. Said I was that way because "your son plays for Podunk."

I looked at her and laughed. "Ma'am, I'm only 21 and I'm not even from around here. How the heck would I have a high school aged child?"

Her face turned beet red and she walked away without saying another word to me.

 

They sure don't like to apologize when they're wrong, do they? They probably blame you for them getting it wrong.

 

On a football Friday, this would happen at 10 p.m.

 

Yep, I was in a similar situation, pointing out I wasn't old enough to have a teenager. Got called a smart ass like it was my fault. Fucking stupid people.

 

Your retort should have been: Well, I'm smarter than you, so what's that make you? Pbbbt!

 

Wondering what century I'm living in. I've actually gotten calls in the past couple weeks asking if we have a phone number for prerecorded scores.

 

Give them your extension, then pull a Kramer.

Dear dimwit running the state juco website,
Would it have been that difficult to upload a list of those who qualified for state finals out of the regional, instead of just listing scores? I would have looked mighty foolish with a story about a local who would be going on to state, had I not called the coach and found out he missed the cut by a stroke. Would have messed up the 19th hole, I know ...
