Billy, I left that shop. I will, however, ask one of my friends who still works there. When I was there, we only got a couple of stragglers. We were very fair. I even called one of my coaching friends one Sunday night and said "Hey, Tony, the deadline for camp info is this week. Are you doing one this summer? If so, please get your info to us."

There's been an eighth-grade "elite" team here playing since February. They went to tournaments in Arkansas and Texas.

Unless you have the next Derek Jeter playing shortstop, the terms "eighth-grade" and "elite" are an oxymoron.

I would rather have a pica team rather than an elite team: 10 characters -- nine players on defense, plus a DH.

if you play a sport outside the normal season it costs the kids scholarships, just ask pre-2006 volleyball parents from Michigan.

Ok, Mark. I was just curious.

I am sure it will be especially effective the second and third years.

Tony, bu the way, owes you a beer ;)

Spring sports in Iowa are track, golf, tennis and soccer.
Golf is also played in the fall.

By the way, I played baseball while in high school in Iowa.
Never seemed strange to play in the summer, and I never heard of travel ball until years later when I lived in another state. Of course, I graduated in 1987 so the time might have had something to do with not hearing about travel ball.
