It's early season tourney time in basketball so of course we have an email tonight from a coach saying his team lost and will be playing in the "Consultation" round of the tournament

Sad to say, I guess, we've had few notable dimwit calls lately.

I'm actually a little troubled by that - we need their business.

They need to be consulted on why they lost.

Caller: Do you think Boise will ever get a CFL team?

    I just hung up.

Got one coach who takes a photo of the book with a phone and sends it to us. Unfortunately, it's unreadable. So I sent a note back telling him such and could we just get a regular email, please?

So naturally the next night we get another photo. Hate to miss out on something because of a dimwit coach, but what can I do? If it can't be read and it's past deadline, can't be done.

I had a coach tonight who could not comprehend how we type in a box score. I explained it to him and he still couldn't get it right. A 2-3 minute call took 15 minutes. Absurd!

I'm also getting a game report via blurry smartphone photo of the scorebook. Oh well, at least they're making an effort to participate.

We've gone through that. Lazy ass coaches.

We've got a few coaches that send photos of scorebooks and they've always been readable. Most schools are also to the point now that they have a person taking full stats on a iPad with Gamechanger or something similar and send the stats that way with an email blast. Either sure beats having to copy down off the phone IMO.

    Dear Dimwit grandma,

I am not biased against Old Podunk High in favor of New Podunk High because I ran a photo of New Podunk in the paper and didn't have a photo of Old Podunk. There were more stories on Old Podunk (3) than there were on New Podunk (1), but keep judging my favoritism on the pictures you see.

I know there were three photos of New Podunk, but if you took the time to read, you would see those three photos were attached to two different stories. If you read even further (assuming you can read, because, honestly, I'm not sure if you can), you would see the other team featured those photos were also highlighted with a story in the paper. It just so happened I had my photographer shoot a game where New Podunk played Podunk Private, so I killed two birds with one stone.

But keep feeding your delusions that I hate Old Podunk if it makes you sleep better at night.

    Sincerely,
    2002 Graduate of Old Podunk

I was out of sports from 2010 until just recently, so blurry scorebook photos are still new to me. Actually, I'm surprised at how few calls I take here in the future, where everybody has an iPad or Samsung tablet or whatever. I'd say about three-quarters of our reports are now email, not calls.
