I'd gladly have called her back myself and explained to her the best way to report/receive a missing newspaper.

But she never left any identifying information.

Dear fan of a former truck-driving college's football team:

The reason the Boise State score wasn't in the scorelist or the AP top 25 capsules in Sunday's paper was because they played Friday, not Saturday. Which you pointed out in your e-mail. So thanks for answering your own question.

So which AQ conference did you go to and are you schilling for with your "days of the week" BS just trying to keep the little guy down?

Got the first "Why isn't there anything about the JV girls basketball team in the paper" facebook post of the year. Hey, at least with FB, I know the parent that is complaining instead of an anon e-mail.

    (am tweaking this)
Dear dumbass woman in the 10-items or less line with a grocery cart full of stuff,
YES, I am talking to you -- directly at you staring you in the eyes -- when I asked if you can count to 10.

  7. I don't get too many calls at work, but at least half of them are old folks looking for the city handicapped access van.

Dear caller. Please don't tell me that the youth football league's Super Bowl was "huge" and that you're upset we weren't there. I'm sorry, high school football playoffs are more important then youth football to our readers. Oh you say you're disappointed on the direction the newspaper has gone and that we don't encourage youth to participate in sports to keep them out of trouble. I know it's cliche, but if I had a dollar for every time I've heard the "keep gets out of trouble" crap. Sorry, that's not really our job.

Because athletes never get in trouble.

I have to say, I was surprised at how well attended some of the youth league games I did this year were.

    Boy that's bad sentence structure.

Not saying it should have been covered, but there were a lot of people there. In some case, more than I have seen at some of the high school games I did.

I guess it depends on the area.

Dear parents of golf and wrestling,

While us sports writers at the Floundering Daily appreciate you informing us of an awards ceremony and an upcoming wrestling tournament, it would help if they came in more than 5 hours in advance of said events. Even though we had a story above the fold on the golf team winning the state championship back in the spring, we can't change our plans for the evening midday to come out and take a picture of the kids posing with their championship rings. You can submit a photo and we'll run it with every other submitted photo on a designated day. Does that mean we hate the kids? No. We are covering events that readers care about.

While the wrestling tournament is a big deal, again, heads up less than 12 hours before the events start doesn't help out. Oh, its the first time Podunk High is hosting a tournament? Like I said, would have been nice to receive more heads up. What are we doing during the wrestling tournament? One is covering a prep football state championship game and the other is covering the local basketball powerhouse in a good early-season game. Even if you don't care about the state title game and think its been overplayed in our paper in the days leading up to it, I'm sure a few readers would disagree with your assessment. Same for basketball. If it's a big deal, we would have been told of this well beforehand and made arraignments to be there.

I don't know anything about your situation, but shouldn't you know whether or not a school is hosting a wrestling tournament for the first time? Did you do a preview or anything for the event at least?
