Agree. There are some VERY good weeklies out there. It's ignorant to generalize them as all one and the same, just like anything else.

Well clearly Mr. Mark works at a paper which is vastly superior to any weekly paper ever and, as such, he thumbs his nose at as poor plebeians who aren't as fortunate to work at such fine establishments.

C'mon, folks. Taking blanket shots at weeklies is poor form.

There are some good weeklies, just not the dozen or so in my neck of the woods. I guess it depends on whether a weekly is owned by someone just for the fun of it, or just for the money, or those who think a community needs a good paper.

I am tempted to say: "I will send you a copy," but that would be flirting with disaster. ;)

If your sports section is more than team photos, coverage of grade school kids and gamers written by coaches, you're better than 75 percent of the weeklies I've read.

    Dear publisher at my paper,
    You are an idiot.
I know I haven't sent photos to the reader who asked for them. I've been e-mailing him and he's OK with it.
Problem is, I haven't done it because they need to be cleaned up. Since I can only work 40 hours a week, it's low on my list of priorities, but I would love nothing more than to do it off the clock.
Please do me a favor - die. OK, don't die - quit. You are very, very bad at your job and because you'd rather be friends with the editorial side than a boss has made our news sections - sans one - an embarassment. I'm tired of being the reason people pick up our papers and tired of not getting credit for it.
    You suck,
    Rhody

    Dear Rhody,

Just send the damn photos without cleaning them up.

    Your pal the publisher.

Ace, I'd love to, but I take pride in my work. I'm not going to half-ass something that has my name on it.
Apparently some of the people I work with don't care.

Can't the reader clean up the photo? How much is the reader paying for it?

Dear fifth-seeded lightweight Wrestler with a barely .500 record on a bad team,

When you call the sports department in the middle of the afternoon and ask question about region tournament pairings, it would be helpful if you pointed out which region tournament you were referring to as basketball and wrestling regions are nearly set as well as the fact that our coverage area include teams in two regions for basketball and two more for wrestling.

Furthermore, we did not get the first-round pairings wrong. It's not our fault that you don't know that Podunk East is actually in the region and has been longer than you've been wrestling. And it's not a mere coincidence that Podunk East has 12 wrestlers in the region tournament and three of your teammates have opening matches with a Podunk East grappler.

So no, there will be no correction. There was no misprint.

You, however, might want to learn about your opponents once in a while. Especially when Podunk East wrestled your team in the region duals a few weeks ago.

I run a Patch site, and we put arrest reports and court reports online.

    Google still exists.

These two things have not made people happy with me lately.
