I've never tried the fried desserts either. The Oreos I saw at the fair last year looked as though they were just covered in funnel cake batter and then fried? So, it's like a funnel cake with an oreo inside?

I like fried pickles - never had the fried spears though. Fried pickle chips are awesome.
Fried yellow squash - that's a great childhood memory. We had it often. Yum.

One of the funniest episodes of King of the Hill is when Dale, Boomauer and Bill try deep frying everything, including beer.

Had deep-fried pickles for the first time when I went on vacation to Panama City Beach last month. That was some damn good eatin'.

What the wise man said. Some zydeco bar on Bourbon Street 14 years ago. Chewy, indeed.

Thin. Went to Hooters and ordered them as an appetizer.

Heh, please. Four pages of deep-fried foods and no mention of the capitol of deep-fried foods: The Iowa State Fair. Deep fried you-name-it, they got it.

    Corndogs
    Oreos
    Ding-Dongs
    Twinkies
    Pickles
    And many more

Plus, Pork Chop-on-a-stick, and the new one this year is Potato Lollipops. Four thick slices of Russert Potatoes, on a stick, deep fried, served up with ketchup, ranch, or honey mustard. My favorite is the Hot Beef Sundae. Two scoops of mashed taters, shredded beef, covered with gravy and a cherry tomato on top.

The fair was great, though the humdity and the heat was a bitch. Damn good thing I laid off of the Tom Thumb donuts this year. I needed a break.

The State Fair of Texas would beat Iowa every day of the week and twice on Sunday when it comes to fried foods.
