Good post. After Columbine they blamed Marilyn Manson. It's just stupid. Sometimes people are crazy. The story about his parents make them sound like some kind of recluse. This guy was crazy.

Like you said, it's always how we react to these events. What is the hot-button of the moment? Marilyn Manson caused Columbine. Sarah Palin caused Tuscon. It's not about the political preferences of the media. It's about the media's preference for a pre-existing narrative.

Bingo. It's lazy and it's undermines what little trust the public has in the media.

    Who, what, where, when, why.

Investigate & report the facts. Don't look for a story to fit a template.

    A Few Facts:

Palin put a target of questionable wisdom and taste on the congresswoman.
The congresswoman complained, saying it was a dangerous practice.
Palin responded by saying people were being too PC.
The congresswoman almost literally had her brains blown out Saturday and one of the (public's) first reactions was to look at Palin.

The other night, while playing Left 4 Dead 2 with Sarah Palin online, she said how much she "fuckin' loves playing Judas Priest records backwards."

I can almost accept that the initial reaction was to look to Palin. (Though in the aftermath of the Ft. Hood massacre and in the aftermath of the attempted Times Square bombing we didn't have law enforcement officials blaming radical Islam. In fact, officials including President Obama and mayor Bloomberg implored us to hold off making rash judgments.)

But for some -- including the Sheriff -- to still be making accusations against Palin or Rush Limbaugh days later is not based in fact and betrays their own political agenda.

15 posts in - within hours of shooting - calling for prosecution of Sarah Palin.

An overreaction on the grandest scale.

The public's first reaction was not too look at Palin. False. The public was not aware of a bad marketing/political gimmick Palin used almost a year ago. Some other entity directed the American public to look in that stupid direction.

Whatever. Look around the blogosphere. Her name was flying around from the start.

When they're hanging out with Republican presidents, sure. Until then, no.
