What is worse is that so many people don't really believe there is anything wrong with them. They are either making it up. Or, you know, should "rub some dirt on it."

They don't have an X-Ray or an MRI to point to. So people dismiss them.

Jared Loughner is mentally unhinged and has shown a pattern of derangement. Yes, the case cracker.

Might not even start out as a mental health issue. In a society where we celebrate the "overachievers" it might be a child who has been constantly marginalized in every aspect of their life.

    1. I fell off the monkey bars breaking my arm as a kid and I turned out just fine.

    2. That story, while interesting, didn't mention monkey bars or a lawsuit against an elementary school not one time.

That's why I always kind of cringe when people use the words "chemical imbalance." Because, in my limited, limited, limited knowledge of this sort of thing, I don't know that that's an accurate description of the underlying cause.

At lot of you are throwing mental illness around. You know if he's found mentally ill -- in a legal sense -- that he's not guilty of shooting 20 people.

    Yes.

And if he's mentally ill to the degree that I suspect, then he shouldn't be found guilty.

    Ace - I don't see your point.

Well, I assume many folks would like to see him locked up. Probably mor than a handful that would like to see him get the death penalty. But if he's mentally ill, you can't convict him.

It's not like he gets found not guilty by reason of insanity and he just walks out of the courthouse a free man. He'd spend the rest of his life, most likely, in a mental institution. And, if not that, under careful supervision.

It is outrageous to me to want to execute someone who is truly mentally ill to this degree and not responsible for his actions.
